NBD - Sire V5

I'd been without a jazz bass for too long. Ordered it from Thomann on Sunday night, it arrived today.

Feels great, nothing about it feels cheap. Really liking the neck, and the dead straight quarter sawn grain.

Didn't have a ton of time to play it. But I like what I hear... though I felt that the presence and articulation on the e string isn't as strong as it might be, particularly from the neck pickup... I'll tinker with raising the pickup a bit tomorrow. Tweaking the preamp on my GK helped (particularly the boost)... I might just need to do some dialing in.

Setup is pretty much right on... need to adjust the intonation a bit on the e. Relief is good, action is good. The strings are spaced a bit unevenly at the bridge, but that's easily fixed.

9lb 4oz (according to my kitchen scale)

The bass looks fab and I'm happy that you like what you have. I like the color and the finish of the body and neck, but I don't particularly care for the shape of the headstock. I have a lot of respect for Marcus Miller as a great player and as a really good, super-personable guy.

Looks like a great bass. Re: uneven levels from strings, I wonder if it could be string quality? I imagine these basses, like most, come with fairly generic, low cost strings. Maybe replace them with your favorite string set of choice???

There was some chatter over at the Sire Bass Club thread that they had switched away from D' Addario for their stock strings. But the colored ball ends tell a different story.

I think I might try some DR Low Riders.

I agree. The cabernet-ish hue of the reds in Sire's TSB are very attractive to me.

Yeah, I really like it... though, I'm a bit of a sunburst sucker anyway. I think the roasted neck complements it really well.

how did you get that?...supply chain issues seem to have stalled any deliveries in Canada..many/most basses on their web site say Sold Out including the V5...I've been GAS-ing for the tobacco burst D5 since at least last summer...apparently delayed until late Oct...in Jan. I asked again and the local store said they were told by Sire "March sometime"...and they were only getting 1 bass and it would be tobacco...they wanted me to pay up front but I was leery to do that given the delays...probably should have as it is now listed $80 more from last year...
I am afraid to ask and that $80 has sort put me off the thing..it will be basically $900 with exchange, mark-up and taxes for a bass listed as $500 on their site...

bummer :(

oh and wow our V5 is stunning
