I know this has been beaten to death...we have all heard all about Sires. And sorry I don't have pictures right now. But thought I would jump on the bandwagon and try a Sire. I was expecting a lot based on the hype but yet not really expecting much because of the price. Figured it was a little irrational optimism. People just wanting to like them and excited about justifying their purchase.
But I was very wrong. This thing is the real deal. Got a V7, alder body sunburst. I think it was like $449 total with shipping to my door. Came with a very, very nice padded gigbag. Like I said, this bass is the absolute real deal. No question. If you have any doubts about this...stop right now. In my opinion, the hype is real. I would be lying if I said the quality was as good or better than my American Standard Jazz bass, but it is close...really, really close. And I paid almost exactly $1000 more for the Fender than I did the Sire. It is absolutely a joy to play. Thin neck but feels not as thin as it is if that makes any sense. It is just a perfectly sized and shaped neck. Don't know how to say it. It is so easy to play and the palette of sounds you can get out of it are just incredible. I am sort've a minimalist and like the simplicity of the traditional p-bass controls. But this was not difficult to figure out and with a little messing around could get bright and crisp or mellow and thumpy with very little trouble. And the sounds were just great. Not a big fan of the stock strings although they were good quality D'Addarios that I'm sure most people would like....just not my cup of tea. But that is easily rectified. And it is absolutely a beautiful looking instrument. It's one of those basses that pictures do not do it justice.
I sit here and look at this thing and just can't believe this bass was $399. Well done and cudos to Sire. It's hard to believe they could produce an instrument like this for that price and not cut many corners with quality and offer phenomenal features and play-ability. I think I have an M7 in my near future. Anyone tried one of those yet? Would be interested in hearing anyone's experience with that one. My guess is it will be as good as the V7.
