Got a little work done this weekend. Now just need to apply some satin clear and address the hollowness of the body. Gotta find me some foam.

NBD - Squier Bronco Bass rescue

Get it pieced back together, stuffed some foam in that giant route and that certainly helped with the pickup. I ordered some short scale Fender strings but they have not arrived yet but I had an old set of GHS Bass Boomers lying around so I trimmed them down and strung it up. It is playable (not to bad either!) but I think I might add another shim in the neck pocket to get the action a little bit lower. neck is straight but I think the truss rod is maxed, and I don't want to bottom out the saddles. I'm leaving it crusty and I love the wear on be back of the neck. I might swap out the electronics as they are kinda wobbly and buzzy, and I found a strat sized pickup that is a humbucker that I might toss in.

The Volume pot turned out to have a short in it, so I replaced the wiring harness, which did help with some of the buzziness. I tweaked the setup a little bit more and improved the action. And best of all, found a set of used black strat knobs to really complete the look of a bass Fender never made. I call it The Impasta.
I will say this, probably because of the pickup, but this bass sounds pretty good through my Blues Jr.

If you want to do something about that pickup, Seymour Duncan himself recommends a Vintage Rail or Cool Rail guitar pickup for this application.
I have been looking at pickup options and i'll take that one into consideration. First i got to try this through my gig rig again to see how much different getting that bad pot out of there made.
Alright having owned, torn down and modded a mid 2000s bronco and having owned a late 90s Vista Series Music Master bass, I say those tuners may actually be original, ive never seen a 1998 Bronco before, but the Vista Series Musicmasters of the same period have a Serial starting with the same letters and the tuners look identical. If those are original then thats the earliest bronco ive ever seen, probably the first year. I mean not like that means anything monetary wise but its cool to me. Also while the mid 2000s one I owned had some open routing under the guard, the cavity wasnt that big

What is the problem with all the routing? I have 2009 which does not look like that and I am planning on routing out weight and putting a larger custom pickguard on it and then some Danelectro 3.73k lipstick pups for vintage sound.. My bronco weight 8.25 lbs my Custom SSp bass is only 6.5lbs.
Are you still there? I was just studying the history behind the Squier Bronco Bass. They now are continuing production under the Sonic Series, as they discontinued their Affinity ones by 2023. I built a Bronco Bass from separate parts. It's a 2017 Affinity series neck attached to a 2023-2024 Sonic series body. The bridge is a Fender HiMass, which is a drop-in replacement. The set of tuning keys is Taiwanese-made (Ping P2681), which drop-in fits through the holes on the Affinity headstock. The only downside is that the screws are not fully aligned with all of the holes, only the upper holes on each gear piece. They can still stay in tune despite the screw alignment problems. They're fun to play around with.
