NBD - Steinberger Spirit ZX-2

Took possession last night of a beautiful Steinberger Spirit XZ-2. Purchased via a well known UK bass forum and the seller even delivered it by hand as he was visiting in the area - stayed around to chat for a while too and I learnt some useful stuff.

Plays really nicely with a good range of tones - it's passive V/V/T with plenty of punch.
Neck is slim with a satin finish and so easy to play - I think this bass has the lowest action of any bass I've owned, with no buzzing.
Weighs more than I was expecting - about the same as my Squier VM Jazz but it balances nicely and you don't so much feel the weight.

I love the concept of these. Full body, headless, decent price. The one I played was not great, but it had clearly had a hard life. Yours looks like a much better example! I would love to try one again.

What's the neck composition on these, wood laminates or composite?

wvbass - I've been on the look out for one of these for a while and have done as much research as possible and, to put it nicely, the quality seems to be hit and miss - so I wasn't too sure on this one even given the photos I had before the purchase. However, the seller had a very good reputation on the forum and I was able to look it over before buying so wasn't too worried. In the event - turns out to be near new. Seller pointed out one scratch on the back that, as far as I could see, was absolutely tiny and you had to hold it the right way in the right light to be able to see it. One strap button has the paint worn off too - apart from that and a bit of dust - near perfect. So, if you can get one like that I think you'd like it. As mentioned, it's heavier than I was expecting, by quite a way - 8lb or so at a guess - but balances so nicely on the strap that you just don't notice it. Certainly nicer than the Hohner Jack I had (and moved on) a while back - apart from a Status, which is so out of my price range - that's the only other bodied headless I've had and it wasn't so hot - mainly a rather lacklustre set of pickups and a chunkier neck than I wanted.

Gilmourisgod - the neck on the this one is one piece maple with a rosewood board. Truss rod looks to be straight through the neck near as I can tell - no carbon fibre re-inforcement or anything. The one I got is nice and straight and quite slim - slimmer front to back than the Hohner mentioned above (or the two B2As I've had).
