New bass day... Got this sweet fretless 5HH that I ordered from the custom shop.

First bass I've owned in 40 years of playing that is a color (I'm generally a coffee-table bass guy).

Gold hardware can look great or tacky. I saw a pic of an old orange J bass that had gold hardware and just loved it, so here we are.

I replaced my 2011 fretted SR with a new 5HH a few months ago. This complements it well. I am really digging the variations with the two pickups. Can't wait to gig with it next week.

Outstanding looking instrument!

I love gold hardware. My 2006 LE Stingray 5 is black with matching headstock and gold hardware and it looks terrific.

How long did the build take and do you think the pricing of a custom EBMM is aligned with the quality? Been on that custom builder way too often.

Some videos of this beauty would be great.

Congratulations!!

Thanks. I ordered it in late May, so it was about 4 months.

As to the pricing/quality? absolutely. A lot of them aren't all that different from the stock prices if you don't load up with too many options. This one came to $3299. I've spent more on basses and this is definitely comparable in quality. I got into Rays because my main bass is a Wal 5 and I like big humbuckers and Rays are kindred spirits in that regard.

Stunningly beautiful! What's the color called? It reminds me a bit of my old Fender Jazz in Sunset Orange Transparent. One of my relatively few seller's remorse basses. Not only a nice Jazz, but it looked so nice under the stage lights....

It's called transparent orange. I went with this because I actually saw an orange/tort/gold J-bass a while ago and loved how it went together.
