I have Nordstrands in all my other basses, and I fully intended on swapping out my Am St pups when I bought my P. But...I decided my stock Am St P is one of the most distinctively P sounding basses I've ever played and I'm leaving it alone.
Congrats on the P! Nice score, on a light weight bass. My j copy weighs in just under 8 lbs. GF pawlonia body, MM neck, Bartolini 18V Fender WBW PG and some HW, and eBay and other sourced misc HW.
I'd also say that DR lo beams are good strings. That's what I use myself on both my basses- the j copy and '67 Rivoli.

Combo graduation/bday present and I couldn't be happier. I just played it for an hour and it is SO much nicer that I ever realized playing it in the store full of people with the crapy fender strings. I know how much these basses are talked about/up on here, but there's definitely a reason for it
I did the same with my Jazz bass: stock fender's are terrible, while d'addario rounds are a very good start, especially on these "traditional" basses

I used 170XL's for years, and never tried anything else as they were consitant, and inexpensive, but recently I got a AV 64 jazz that was setup with GHS boomers.. I haven't tried these strings in years, and gotta say I'm really liking them. The 45-105 set works great on this bass. Maybe I should try a set of XL's on the jazz? I always have had flats on my Precisions, and played them for the last few years so I'm out of the loop on roundwounds.

This all makes complete sense for me... and we're talkin' MIM standards, while the beautiful AV '64 I really think deserves sumthin' special , just like GHS
On P bass too I'm definitely on your side: I've one momentarily with Dean Markley's nickel plated blue steel on, which I usually like, but not on a P, so that I'm now thinkin' of Ernie Ball flats, possibly in the 50-105 (there's an Hipshot bass extender on so I can come down to low D) gauge

Yea I really like this jazz, and I have a set of DR pure blues I considered putting on, but they are 45-100, and everytime I attempt to install them I play the bass, and change my mind.
I think the heavier guage may sound punchier on a jazz, and I don't want to screw up the way it feels.

I tried to like Rotosound Steve Harris flats, but they're 50-110 and completely deaf (believe me) so, impulsively (I don't really know if it's right, ok?) I got blue steels (way mellower and loudly resonant) but it's too much again, this time for they'te too soft and possibly too bright for Precision bass.
That's why I thought about Ernie Ball 50-105 flats

I'm using Fender flats on my P (ash/maple) for the last year, and they sound great. I was using chromes, and those are cool too, but I prefer the Fenders. I also have a Stingray that I run EBMM group 3 nickels on, and I tried a few different flsts as well as rounds on that bass, but really like the EB strings the best
All the new standards have the truss rod adjustment at the heal, and yes you can access it without removing the neck.

yeaaaaahhhhh! i need to start playing with other people, i'm 100% about this. also kinda in the position that i don't want this thing to leave the house
i have a squier affinity that is pretty RnR (spray painted) and has a gzr. i feel like that would be better for playing in the sense that i would be more focused on what i'm playing instead of bumping my headstock on something.
i'm still in total disbelief! my jazz weighs 10.8 lbs and is something i can't really play if it's not sitting on my lap . . .
that's so awesome, i ended up getting a usacg body on here for cheap to put the np4 in with a vm blocked maple jazz neck. i hope it sounds like it's from the 70s
my playing as of late is more focused on playing (all of the styles and genres) so i feel that round are where i need to be right now. also, i got my free setup from the shop, so i plan on milking it with using the same brand/gauge strings for quite some time
i have . . . umm 3 sets of flats? chromes, labellas, and a set of galli. all sound incredible, and imo don't sound right on my jazz. i def want a P and J with a consistent set of rounds, and then other/project basses i am happy to "experiment" with. the chromes sound amazing, and those labellas are the nicest feeling strings i've ever touched.
i can see some flats going on this P after my usacg build finishes and i can play that with friends if needed (set for RnR with rounds etc).
