I'm coming up on my first year with my AmStd P (same color as yours even) and I still absolutely love it. Maybe more so now.
Congrats on an excellent bass. Hopefully it won't be too long until you're no longer worried about the occasional and inevitable headstock ding, buckle rash, etc. I take mine everywhere now - but never leave it anywhere. It's with me always.

I was really on the fence about this all throughout the purchase, but I kept the faith. I knew it was really light when I first picked it up (my jazz is a tank), but wasn't sure just how light. Ended up getting it for 20% off of sticker due to a 4th of July sale, so the new price before tax was just outside of used prices. I had the guy weigh it in the store, and he said it was 8.05 lbs. I honestly didn't believe it then and I still don't now. It rings in at 8.0 lbs on my bathroom scale (to the tenth on a nice digital scale).
I fully intended on thinking the PUs would sound like crap and replacing them with a nordy or gzr. But, I think they sound amazing and am going to leave it 100% stock. The neck is completely flat, strings are super low, and there is not a buzz on the fretboard. I had new strings and strap lock pins put on it today before I left with it. Shout out to Jason at BassStringsOnline ( @SLaPiNFuNK ). I got a 2pack of D'Adarrio rounds for $22 shipped!
Combo graduation/bday present and I couldn't be happier. I just played it for an hour and it is SO much nicer that I ever realized playing it in the store full of people with the crapy fender strings. I know how much these basses are talked about/up on here, but there is definitely a reason for it.
Congrats on your new bass and thanks for posting this. I see one just like this in my near future. Does that fact that a bass weighs a pound or so less than another make a difference when you have it hanging over your shoulder during a long set list?
There are many like it, but none are ever quite like yours! Got a 2009 myself, but I made a couple non-invasive mods to it. Dunlop Straploks instead of the stock Schallers, EMG Geezer instead of the stock pickup (I hear the stock PU's since 2012 are much better but the ones from 2009 suck), and a bent plate Fender bridge from the American Deluxe series. Oh, and I once leaned it up against something I shouldn't have and it fell and made a big huge ding with a finish chip. I guess now it's a relic

Nice bass ... but where is the 5th string?
i've had it home for less than 24hrs, and the majority of those i was sleeping or at work
i anticipate a big difference, and this was what made me buy this P when i did. i don't know if i'd still be looking or buying something used a la modulus/nordy from the classifieds if this thing weighed more than it does. but at the time, i was definitely taking weight into consideration with other builds. i had been waiting around for a j-body to appear at warmoth that weighed under 4.5 lbs, but now that is no longer the case.

i have the gzr in a squier here and it sounds great. that has been my only "operational" p around here for some time, and the basis of deciding weather or not i wanted to get a MIA (testing neck profile etc). it sounds awesome and that little "beater" plays very well for what it is. i was kicking around the idea of putting the gzr in the new one due to its ease of install (was going to swap out the entire stock guard with the plastic still on it), but it's still just too nice from the factory.
i can see myself with that gzr in something a little nicer down the line

There were plans for a passive EMG JJ set, but I think they got scuttled (along with my EMG deal) when my buddy left.i have the gzr in a squier here and it sounds great. that has been my only "operational" p around here for some time, and the basis of deciding weather or not i wanted to get a MIA (testing neck profile etc). it sounds awesome and that little "beater" plays very well for what it is. i was kicking around the idea of putting the gzr in the new one due to its ease of install (was going to swap out the entire stock guard with the plastic still on it), but it's still just too nice from the factory.

I just brought home a new Fender Deluxe Dimension V. It is pristine like the Precision V was. But it's gonna get played on as many stages as I can get it on. The P-V is now a bit scuffed and has some finish marring as it gets played a lot (I play about 40 gigs a year). Don't fear playing wear. The pleasure of the sounds of working with others and the tones and your reaction to music is the takeaway when working a Fender Precision. I baby my basses but in the course of making music, you'll wear on it. It does give it character but keep it cased when not playing, and clean 'em and keep them set up well and even after a little wear, you'll still love it. You gotta gig it though. That's where you consummate the relationship.yeaaaaahhhhh! i need to start playing with other people, i'm 100% about this. also kinda in the position that i don't want this thing to leave the house
i have a squier affinity that is pretty RnR (spray painted) and has a gzr. i feel like that would be better for playing in the sense that i would be more focused on what i'm playing instead of bumping my headstock on something.
