NBD Tune 8 string!!

Tune makes COOL basses! Wow, that's a nice one!
I think there's still a Tune semi-hollow 6 string fretless in my future, but yeah, I've wanted to try a Tune since forever, and I'm not disappointed at all.
Congratulations my friend .

Tune are wonderful basses. I've been carrying a torch for them around 36 years so it's always great when I hear of folk finally experiencing a Tune bass  Bonus points for going 8 string :)

Despite owning 3 of them I have a hankering for the semi-hollow models too .

Check this out ;)

Sounds like an EHX POG without the glitches ;) Enjoy your new instrument!

I have and love the POG, but there's something magical about the real thing that it just can't match. Especially this one, it's just so perfectly clear in tone....

While a pedal can get you a decent 8-string sound that will be "good enough" in a band mix for that one or two songs, they really can't do what an actual 8-string can. The direction of your picking can give you less or more of the octave. You can even play just the low strings on sections and then pick out the higher octaves on fills.

I was playing along to The Pointer Sister "Fire" last night as we're adding it to our set list and I realised that it was perfect for the 8-string. We have only one guitarist and the 8-string can sound like the bass and rhythm guitar quite well leaving room for the guitarist to play the atmospheric chords and fills.

Before the lockdown I was jamming with a couple of buddies in a power trio. I'm thinking that an 8-string may be my main player after things open back up.

My only concern for you would be if you have a guitarist who doesn't like it.

I am not saying he won't, but I have one guitarist I work with who didn't (there is also a keyboard in that mix). Jimmy Page also didn't like John Paul Jones using one.

If your guitarist likes it, rock that thing.

That's the same type of setting that mine got it's most use. I used it on around half the songs in a previous classic rock trio. I don't use it as much now but the only way I'll ever part with it is in the very, very unlikely situation where I end up with a better 8-string.

Agreed, that will be the final determining factor.

Congrats, 8 strings are very cool and that's a super nice one! After the first of the year I'm having my luthier build me an 8 string Stingray, pretty stoked about that. In the meantime, this'n here will do.
