NBD Tune 8 string!!

the 8-string can sound like the bass and rhythm guitar quite well
...assuming that that rhythm guitar follows the bass in unison all day long ;) in my current band, we tried a very similar formula; but ended up getting a keyboard player and leaving the bass do its thing. Filling the sonic space was possible, but we lacked the groove & harmony & timbre of a distinct player.

I would think unless the band is Cheap Trick or early Kings X, or the bassist is a total monster on the eight, using a conventional bass on most tunes and pulling out the eight on certain ones would fit the bill best.

I agree..... but in a trio where you don't have the keys or the second guitar it can add a lot. It's not for everything..... probably less than half of the songs on my last project, but for some songs, it really fattens things up and keeps the body in the song when the lead guitarist strokes his ego.

Sweet!
These bridges are extremely adjustable. If you want, I can show you how I set mine.
Hawk

So here's the bridge:

I've got it set up so the tops are almost even, yet following the fb curvature. It's the fastest 8-string I've ever played, even very slapable. These strings have been on since 1993. So, no problems. This is by far the best 8 string bridge I've found. I'd show more pics, but don't wanna impose on the thread...

When i first got my Fernandes, I took it to a 2-hour gig with the intention of playing it for a song or two.
My 4-string Rick never came out of the case.
The band was mostly vocal, instruments were 1 gtr, bass, drums. Pop/rock,the 8 sounded really good, especially when the gtr player was doing a lead.

It's this setup decision that causes the "twist" folks are seeing. Base on what I have been reading, I'm expecting this is how I will set up my personal player.

@cyberhawk Seeing your setup and the layout of this bridge makes me feel even better about the choices I've made with my bridge design. So cool!

@cyberhawk Right now, it's on paper and heading into in the CAD stage with the OEM.

I'm considering applying for a design patent, so my attorney has warned against sharing any details until I have the production model in hand.
