NBD! Warmoth fretless 5

Exactly one year after I bought my first 5 string I picked up my first fretless!

It's a lined 35" scale,
looks like about 18mm string spacing at the bridge,
bone nut,
roasted swamp ash body
Macassar ebony board with 3 piece maple and Wenge neck,
Nordstrand Zen Blade pickups,
Nordstrand 2 band preamp w/ tone knob,
Hipshot A style bridge.

Other than being the largest bass I own, it's a joy to play! I am super impressed with the Nordstrand setup. It's warm and wooly! Pickups look cool to boot! I've found it VERY easy to transition to fretless. I have some old nerve damage in my left hand (non dominant) so I worried about positioning but I'm already micro-shifting when needed. Not anywhere near as hard a jump as expected, and I can't put it down.

Beautiful bass. The fretboard grain is awesome. I really dig the oval side markers as well. Those have really got to stand out for you while playing it

Thanks! I know right? That board is like a big blondie/brownie. It's what make me decide I needed it; looked so much better in person! Waited until some good light to get that neck shot. =)

Thanks! Yeah, it's most of the specs without the gecko logo although I'm not that familiar with Warmoth. I've run across their guitar necks in the past and was always impressed with the optioning.

Bravo. The fact that the macassar grain isn't straight is a big plus for me. Yamaha used it on the 80's BB's, not died black, and I love the 'chocolate milk' swirls. And for those of us that weren't viol-family trained on fretless fingerboards, the lines make a lot of sense.

Bravo. The fact that the macassar grain isn't straight is a big plus for me. Yamaha used it on the 80's BB's, not died black, and I love the 'chocolate milk' swirls. And for those of us that weren't viol-family trained on fretless fingerboards, the lines make a lot of sense.

Interesting! It is some really cool grain I set out looking for some "character" in a neck and found it!

Lines were necessary. I showed my violinist wife a picture before I bought it and she said" what are those lines...like, finger tapes? ^_^ I told her I'm old with nerve damage, not gonna learn classical positioning at this point in my life!

I was doing research on macassar vs pale moon ebonies, i.e. Balaguer PME, trying to figure if it was a specific cut of Macassar but i think they're different species.

Anyway, mwah away and maybe get some sound clips, i'm thinking a single nordstrand in bridge position only would be nice for one of my projects.
