Fantastic story and it's so cool you got it back.

It does make me think though that US high schools must have some serious budget. For the school to buy a brand new Fender bass and new amp and then give them to a complete novice to use. Over here you'd be lucky to get a bottom of the line Yamaha bass with the crappiest amp money can buy and then, if you want to take it home you've got to pay rent on it.

One of the things that surprised me the most was how beefy the neck is. (To me, that's a good thing.) Over the years since then I have played a lot of MIJ Fender basses and most of them had pencil thin necks. But this one feels pretty good in my big hands. It's not a baseball bat. But it's thicker than I thought it would be. That was a pleasant surprise when I got to play it yesterday.

Is it thick-wide or thick front to back?
My 2015 is rather large but flat front to back.

Congrats twofer; my first bass was firewood and I don't miss it at all. I had sold it and picked it up again at a friend's house about five years into my bass playing career - it was as bad as I remembered it. Ha!

Cool story man! Glad to see you reunited, you never forget your first.

Now, about the way those strings are in the tuners. Is there a reason you're not cutting the ends and sticking them down the slots? Looks like you've got the first wrap going over the end locking them down.

And in addition to the shorts, how about that polo shirt and amp? I'm sure that amp is still working, provided it hasn't been in a fire or something disastrous like that. I have a similar TKO115 that is still going strong.

Great story! I still have my first bass, but I'd love to get my hands on the school's '70s Jazz I played in 12th grade back in the mid-80s. TSB, rosewood board w/blocks & binding, tort guard - what's not to love, right?
