Picked up a used 2017 affinity jazz bass for the price of a Glarry today. It’s my first jazz bass, closest I had/have is a peavey foundation. It plays really well once I set it up, the strings seem pretty new too. It’s not my favorite sounding bass, but I suspect a change in pickups could do a world of good. Fun color, race red. Pretty stoked to find bass is routed so that it looks pretty good without the pg. So the question is, keep it on or take it off?View attachment 3880409View attachment 3880410

without is cool, & has kind of that 80's vibe sleek & clean,I dont like white PGs, gloss black on red will look killer!

I bought my first jazz bass back in 97 or so. I bought it used, and was having our local music shop set it up for me. He had to remove the pick guard to access the truss rod. I saw it without it and never put it back on.....I did however put the pick guard screws in the holes.....I'm a weirdo. Sooooooo my vote is to leave it off.

Not every bass looks better with a pickguard and not every bass looks better without one.

For a Jazz bass with a control plate, I say use a pickguard. If the bass had the control plate on the back so the knobs came up through holes in the top of the bass, then I'd say your bass would look better without it. But in this case - with.

White or black pearl would look great on that. And if you want to put black hardware on it, then I'd suggest black or black pearl.

If you don't want to make any other changes, stick with the white pickguard you already have. Looks great with it on there.
