Sold some gear at a Music Go Round today, left with an Epiphone Ripper PJ. The previous owner put a Dimarzio Split P humbucker in the neck position and it sounds great when you have the J turned off. I ordered the cream Dimarzio Model P/J set for it, but the different colored pickups are growing on me.

Btw, is there anyway to get rid of the sudden lack of tone when I turn the bridge pickup on?

Congrats that's a pretty cool bass. Sounds like you have a wiring or pot issue with the sudden weirdness with the bridge pickup being engaged.
