Just a Sterling short scale Stingray. Haven’t played on it much yet. Will probably put on some flats. Any suggestions? I’m thinking either Rotosound or LaBella DTB.

Congrats on the new bass. I really like the white models with the darker fretboard. I have been a poopie in this year so I have never tried one of these.

Search deep talking flats and the model on youtube. You'll see a demo of someone playing them on there. I love the labellas so that would be my choice. For the right person I could see someone recording with one with rounds and one with flats.

I play the 760fl set on my precision's, they just came lout with a shorter scale set. Just be sure to dou me check length off it is string thru.

Once again, enjoy!

TI. But with a disclaimer.
Putting flats on any kind of Stingray angers the Lord. Do you want that worry? Wouldn’t play if it’s stormy out. Just saying.
I have LB on a fretless and 77s on a semi hollow, I like the Rotos more when they are new and as they age I like the LaBella more. TI are obviously a lot more cost but you only need to buy them once. They are as lively as you can get from flats.

Oh my you may be right. I strung it up with Labella Flats today. Not only is it not lively but I do not like those strings. They feel sticky. Don’t know if that goes away. Fortunately I’ve also got a pack of DR high Beams to try out too. And I can always put the EB slinkies back on tik.

There are lots of flat-like strings that play and sound as lively as round wounds, and some are coated also. LaBella Tape Wounds are basically coated round wounds, D'Addario Half Rounds are smooth and lively too, as are GHS Pressure Wounds. Their advantage is in their smoother feel on your fingers and in less damage to fretboards, especially with a fretless. Also that annoying (to me anyway) zzinnng string noise one too often gets from uncoated round wounds is eliminated!

I was using Roto77s on my Mikro and I really liked them. The Labellas are just too smooth and I did not realize they were coated.
I think I’ll put the DRs on tonight and give them a go.

I was definitely getting a lot of finger noise with the stock strings but I think maybe I just improved my technique. In any case I think I’ll stick with round wounds on this bass. In any case it give me a few more options.

So I put the DR high beams on tonight as those Labellas just weren’t going to work. They are fine and I’ll Have to give them a while to settle in but it’s pretty clear that this bass wants round wounds.

Funny. My Ray has DR HiBeams right now. I’ve used EB Slinky and D’ads and Dunlop super bright and I’m sure a jillion other sets over the years. I like the feel of the DR and they seem to have a pretty long life.
So now that I've had a chance to play with the DRs for a while I decided they are perfect. Not quite as comfy as the EB Slinkies, but higher tension which works for me.

Now that I have bought a second bass I understand why bassists keep so many around. My Mikro sounded perfect with flats whereas this thing DEMANDS rounds.
