NCAA Basketball - 2011

Well, a lot of teams have looked good against the Hogs. Glad the Gators were able to give the Vols a harsh dose of reality last night.;)

Vandy's come out strong early today, though.

Gators are looking really good, they're on a 10-for-11 streak! Now, they might have to avoid another slow start to beat Kentucky tomorrow for the tournament title. OTOH, Kentucky has simply not been good away from Rupp.

Win or lose, as long as the Gators bring it tomorrow and don't get stomped, I'm pretty psyched about the way they're playing going into the NCAAs. And I had real doubts about them in January.

Same here Greg. I caught pieces of the game today. Looks like Billy has his boys peaking at just the right time.

Cheers to the Washington Huskies and Isaiah Thomas for pulling off the stunner over Zona today. I don't really care for UW, but that was some fun basketball.

UConn's been on a tear recently. Both the men and women won the Big East titles. I'm sure the conference will be very well represented in the NCAA mens' tournament.

Go Huskies!!

Was at MSG on Saturday for the Men's Big East Championship!! It was a real close game, but Kemba and the Huskies took it from Louisville. Five wins in five days!

I'm surprised and pleased the Gators nabbed a 2 seed in Tampa, I thought they'd have to win the SEC tournament to do that. They didn't play at their best yesterday, but the refs did them no favors, either.

Anyway, it sets up as an interesting draw for them--they'll have to beat either Michigan State (an old nemesis) or UCLA (who UF pounded in their title run in 06) to get to the Sweet Sixteen. First they have to beat UCSB, who looked so good under Seth Greenberg--not sure how they are now with a new coach.

Don't you think a 2 is a little high? I expected a 3 or 4, disregarding my bias against them.

Cool!

I was excited to see that if UConn gets through the first two rounds they'll play in Anaheim at the Honda Center. I looked at ticket prices and, well, $186 is a bit much right now! :hmm: Maybe another year.

Haha, you and the Gators. We used to have another guy who posted with such disdain for all things UF, you seem to have nicely filled his spot. :D

But yeah, I agree with you that a #2 does seem kind of high.

-Mike

Sounds a little contradictory. You think I show some unrealistic disdain and unfair unrealistic assessment of how they are doing, but then you go on to agree with my point. UF has been good this year, but no one expected them to get a 2.

Calm down bro, you were the one who said you were biased. You are reading way too much into my comment. I didn't say anything about if the disdain was legitimate, or even what I thought about it. All I said is we had another guy who was always popping shots at Florida, but he doesn't post much anymore. So now we have you, and you fill the role just fine.

Honestly, I quite like having you post about the Gators. Sometimes it is factual, other times it sprouts from sheer jealousy which totally cracks me up every time I read it. :D

The second word in my post was "surprised".

I expected a 3, but definitely NOT a 4. You don't win 26 games overall, the regular-season title of a major conference, get to the tournament final and get stuck at 4.

Why a 2 seed makes sense: The committee has historically rewarded teams that finish strong. The Gators definitely did that, winning 10 of their last 12--while a bunch of top teams sputtered in February and early March. UConn, for instance.;)

No, he clearly says in the post you quoted: "I created a group named talkbass"

Syracuse matches up well in their bracket, I have hopes for a deep run if our shooters wake up again, and we can reign in the mental speedbumps at the ends of games.

My thoughts:

UF shouldn't be a #2, but they really shouldn't be any lower than a 3 or 4.

Vandy probably has the worst possible first round match-up out of the entire tourney.

I don't think any SEC teams will make it to the round of 16 or 8.

I'm really surprised at how the play-in games stacked up. I thought they ware all playing for a 16 seed, not just at the committee's whims.

Uconn and BYU will both get bounced really early.

Notre Dame will take it all.
