NCAA Football - 2011

Tressel resigns: Link Removed

All the radio hosts have been saying this was inevitable for a few weeks now, yet it seems most OSU fans are unanimous in their desire for him to remain. The only logical reason for him to go is that there's more dirt under the rug and he's trying to stop the bleeding before the NCAA drops the hammer. So long OSU. We'll see you and USC in the MNC conversation in a decade or so.

ESPN runs a series called 30 for 30. I just got done watching "The Best That Never Was", a documentary about Marcus Dupree. What a sad story.

I saw that a few months back. It was well told, but just so sad. Even back then there was a tremendous amount of pressure on the kids (and they are still kids for the most part) going to play college ball at a big time place. Sounded like he couldn't handle it, then got hurt on top of it. What a shame.

I've seen several of those 30 for 30 films and most of them have been pretty good, IMO.

Sure hope OSU leaves our coach alone. I think they will ride out the interim guy til Urban Meyer decides he wants to coach again.

Even if OSU is a slightly more prestigious job, Stoops shiukd stay He would have to have a very good reason to leave all that success he's built up in Norman.

I remember seeing that one when it came out. I had never heard of him before watching it, and after hearing his story, I kinda feel for him.

Also, it just goes to show you that all those NFL guys with 3-5 year league minimum salaries don't end up loaded, like a few people around here claim they do...

I suspect OSU is looking at a couple of years of severe penalties by the time this one is over. Lying to the NCAA, no oversight, over twenty players involved over eight years, Trading memorabilia for drugs, and playing ineligible players. That is a total climate of corruption if I've ever seen one. I doubt any top coach will be leaving a program like OK or coming out of retirement for that until the NCAA has handed out the penalties.

Writer lists his opinion on the top 20 coaching jobs in the country. I think his logic and explanations are flawed in so many ways. For example, he lists Oklahoma as number 3 simply because they aren't in the SEC and don't have to compete in such a tough league, neglecting the lure for coaches who mostly want just that. Rather silly I think, but it's something to read in the off-season none-the-less. Really, the margin that might exist between any of these schools is fairly slim.

Talking about Pelini in Nebraska :D Going to an in-conference rival would make him a persona non grata here in Lincoln.
Oh, Sorry! I don't mean to dog Pelini, but that would be a bad move for OSU at this point I think. He's doing a good job at Nebraska, but I don't think he's necessarily defined himself as a guy who can get it done anywhere. Only a handful of coaches fall in that category right now, and I think OSU will try to grab one of them, and if not they'll try to get someone like Petersen or Patterson.

I wouldn't be too quick to go there. I'm sure a lot of Ohio State fans were happily sticking it to USC, until...

This kind of thing can happen to ANY major program.
I'm not intending to poke fun, but rather stating what's likely in jest. I don't think the OSU case could happen at most schools because I doubt many head coaches would lie to the extent that Tressel did which is the real reason they are in so much trouble.

No offense taken on Pelini - He's is an OSU alumn and from the Youngstown family of coaches along with the Stoops brothers so his name has been tossed around a lot. Certainly behind Meyers, Stoops, et al on their list IMO.

Being an alumn certainly means something. As a Bama fan it seemed to mean not being a good coach for years after Bear passed away. Every coach had to be a Bear boy and we had some horrible coaches until we finally got over it and hired Saban. Pelini has the right stuff. I'd hate to see him go if I were a Cornhusker. Nebraska is a destination job for sure, but when mama calls it's hard to say no.
