NCAA Football 2016 Week 1

You are forgiven, Mike. I was napping, too.

Washington is supposed to be reasonably good this year, but unless there's some big surprise, we won't know until week four. Rutgers is a mystery, since they have a completely new staff, but complete overhauls only occasionally lead to immediate winning. Especially if there's been a tradition of being kicked around for a while. Look at Washington as exhibit one.

I'm a day late. I totally forgot about the Thursday games.

Bummer Appalachian State couldn't hold on.

That and SC/Vandy were both big teases, giving us hope for upsets until the final minutes--or OT in one case.

If anyone says Tennessee is now "learning how to win the close ones" I'm going to gag. Yeah, great job making the App State kicker miss that extra point and FG attempt. And how about that pinpoint fumbling into the end zone!:D

Muschamp is working with not much talent, to be sure, but it looks like he's learned zero about offense since his UF tenure. He even hired Roper, the old OC at Florida--probably because Roper will do what Muschamp says and play ultraconservative. I'm predicting a losing record this year.

As for the Gators, I said in the preseason thread that they will likely finish +/- 15 spots from their current ranking of #25. I'll stick with that. They should annihilate UMass tomorrow night, which will prove nothing. It'll be a good excuse to get together with friends and eat great pizza, though.

Factoid from College Gameday: LSU fans did something even Packer fans don't do. They sold out several parking lots for tailgating at Lambeau. In July.

The Wolverines did what they were expected to do. Still, allowing only 3 points. Yeah that was kinda nice. I am at a loss for how they are going to figure out how to use Peppers. That kid is an athletic freak. They could very easily over use the kid if they aren't careful.

I went to the CU-CSU game in Denver last night. Nasty. We left at the half to avoid the fan behavior that's typical of CU fans after a victory, and had dinner.

this morning, the Cougar flags were bright and visible on College Gameday - restored my faith in football.

Right now I'm getting ready to pull up the WSU - EWU game on the PAC-12 network!

Go, COUGS!!

Dang you McElwain!! You don't take points off the board, especially when those points give you the lead.
I thought everyone knew this. I'm some goofball sitting in my recliner 3,000 miles away, and I know it.

I actually agreed with that decision, given the opponent. Now the play call and execution sucked. Oh well, they finally pulled It together in the fourth. Only real takeaway is that we have a good kicker. They better clamp down on the penalties,

I dunno Greg. If the Gators were back to the dominant team they used to be, I'd pull the points against an opponent like UMass too. I'm glad it all worked out, but at that point in the game, I wasn't feeling all that confident.

Now time to see if Auburn finds a way to get this win.

The Husky nation is pretty happy right now. USC sure didn't acquit themselves too well against 'Bama. Not that too many teams are likely to keep up with Alabama for the time being.

I hope the LSU player who went head hunting in Wisconsin gets booted from football entirely.

this morning he's claiming he didn't know the play was over. Flagrant gets him one game suspension. He deserves more. Hopefully NCAA will take further action.

Eh, he probably didn't know the play was over. I believe him.

I just saw the play for the first time. I agree with Mike, it really didn't look like he knew the play was over. The Wisconsin player went to the ground, got up and immediately started running forward. I hope the Wisoncsin kid is alright.

Now the USC player who stomped on the Bama guy's crotch--that was obviously intentional and truly contemptible.
