UW has a bye week. I'll be taking a nap. After what they did to Oregon, I kinda need a nap.

Washington State is looking pretty good all of a sudden. UCLA is struggling. That's going to make for some unpredictability. The Big 10 is still the Big 10, and Ohio State - Wisconsin should be a telling game. Michigan should have an easy time. That's a pity. They are still the M-word that cannot be spoken as far as I'm concerned.

Alabama has Tennessee. That could be good. Tennessee could collapse now, or they could be breathing fire. Clemson, meh.

In real football, Harvard is still rolling along. They gotta have some kind of scandal. One of those guys probably has an IQ of less than 195 or something.

While the dawgz slumber next week, the Cougs will take on UCLA. I have that down as a W if we play like we did the last two weeks. Against Stanford the Cougs had 120 rushing yards, 357 passing yards, and the game wasn't as close as the 42-16 score, with one Stanford TD coming in garbage time at the end.

A balanced attack from the famed Air Raid two weeks in a row? Who'd a thunk it?

In minor conference news, the Colorado State Rams came back to life after a couple of miserable weeks and came from behind to beat Utah State. Nothing that will hit the national news, but there is happiness in Fort Collins as a result. That team appeared to be floundering and to stage a 21- point comeback in the second half was great to see.

Roll Tide!

Florida hosts Missouri and Dartmouth travels to BYE. Go Big Green! :D

I'm not sure who I want to win the OSU/Wisconsin game, probably Wisconsin.

NC State just beat Notre Dame, so maybe they'll put up a good fight against Clemson. Then again, maybe the weather helped out there and the fact that Notre Dame just isn't look all that good. I'll watch that game.

I don't like cheering for FSU, but I do hope they stay ranked.

It's a good week in the Great North Wet (including the dry side) when the Cougs and Huskies both win. It's even better when the opponents are Stanford and Oregon. So, it's been two good weeks up here in the upper left corner. Washington State could be the toughest team left on the Huskies schedule if they keep it up. That will make the Apple Cup even better. Especially if the Huskies win. ;)

Yikes! I'm catching up on the news coming out of Texas. Kirk Herbstreit apparently doesn't care for Austin.
I don't see how Coach Strong saves his job now. I hope he leaves on his own accord.

-Mike

Texas is kind of like LSU, the expectations are to win all the time. I agree, I think Strong is playing out the season - if he gets that far.

I heard about the Herbstreit comment. I think he was referring to the political climate in the university (which is not different from most Texas universities) and if that's the case, he's being TOO kind. In Texas, internal politics is a basic but toxic food group and I got tired of it really, really fast. The day I left Texas for Colorado was one of the happiest days of my life.

Just for good measure, IMO (and I've read every word I can find on the subject) Mike Leach was clearly jobbed at Texas Tech by administrators who disliked him personally. They let him go just before he would have gotten a big payday, and it was no coincidence. Internal politics in action.

Just another day in the office (or leaving it) in university politics deepinahearta.

To sum up: TELL 'EM, KIRK!!!!!!!

4 teams from the B1G in the top 10. It's starting to feel like my college football world is righted again :)
Haha, I couldn't imagine who the fourth one was till I looked it up. Nebraska has beaten Fresno State, Wyoming, Oregon, Northwestern and Illinois. Next up, Indiana and Purdue. They could end up being the least-qualified 7-0 Power 5 team ever.:D (To be fair, I'm sure the Ducks were a LOT better when that game was scheduled.)

When the game was scheduled? Probably. When it was played? No, they probably weren't. They just hadn't had the veneer knocked off quite so completely yet.

Oh, never mind. I can't help myself. It's been a long 12 years getting thrashed by the Ducks. It's going to take a 12 year winning streak against them to truly exorcise the demons. But, I'll admit that routing them helps. 70 points is over the top, though.

Herbstreit was a Buckeye quarterback, way back when, right? I don't remember if I still lived in central Ohio or not when he was their quarterback. If I still lived there, then he's old. He's still a Buckeye, though. It's one of those tribal loyalties that's next to impossible to shake. I have lived in Seattle for just less than 30 years, and haven't lived in Ohio for almost 40 years. I sill root for the Buckeyes, except when they are playing Washington. It worms its way in and becomes some kind of temporary genetic flaw. My son, who has only peripheral ties to Ohio, doesn't care about the Buckeyes or the Big Ten at all. So, it's not a permanent condition.

The only thing Kirk Herbstreit tells 'em is how much better Ohio State is than anybody, in any respect. Always amazed they allow such a homer on national television.

Maybe it's just me, but Herbstreit doesn't strike me as a big homer. (And I can't stand OSU.) Now Joey Galloway, on College Gameday Final, definitely slurps the Koolaid. He's always pushing to rank OSU #1.

Interesting...I know I'm not the only one who thinks it:

And I am pretty indifferent about Big 10 football, and don't particularly care for Michigan either. And I've even been to WSU (visiting).
