NCAA Football 2018 Week 3

Real football starts this week. The Ivies are playing non-league games unless I missed something.

Washington dropped a place in the rankings, and deservedly so. They beat North Dakota 45-3 and looked awful doing it. Utah this Saturday won't be a glorified high school team, so they best have their act together. Stanford beat USC and moved in front of them in the rankings.

Were there any upsets? Probably not. With the exception of USC/Stanford, it was splatter week. This week will be far better. I hope USC beats Texas, but probably not.

Georgetown visits Hanover for an afternoon kickoff. I would so love to be at that game.
Dartmouth only has one TV game this year, the October game at Yale.
It's a Friday night, with a 6:00PM kickoff. So perfect in every way.

As for the big time college football, Florida continues to fall flat on it's face. They have no coach and no leadership. But hey, everyone can sit around and remember how awesome the Tim Tebow teams were.

Texas lost to freaking Maryland and only beat Tulsa by a TD. USC should win that game. I really don’t like USC but growing up an Aggie and holding degrees from A&M and Oklahoma, I hope the Trojans beat the ever-living, everloving, compound, complex HELL out of tu.

Oklahoma goes on the road to Iowa State for a revenge game. The Cyclones are like Northwestern in that they always win a game they shouldn’t, so here’s hoping Oklahoma doesn’t get back to back treatment. I think it’s West Virginia’s turn ;)

A&M host UL Monroe, which should be a nice breather between Clemson last week and Alabama in week 4. Here’s hoping Jimbo can keep them focused this week when all eyes in Aggieland are aimed a week ahead.

FSU SHOULD have it easy at Syracuse, but seeing as they almost lost to Samford last week it’s obvious that the Willie Taggard experiment is not working for the Noles. Strange days when UCF and USF run Florida football. (Although after how dirty Charlie Strong was treated at Texas I’m glad to see him succeed at USF)

My alma mater, Arizona State, is 2-0. Got lucky to beat a tough Michigan State team, with a last second field goal. But, I'm still not convinced that they are to be strong enough to handle Washington or Stanford.
The upcoming game, with San Diego State, will be a good test. Last year, Pumphrey went nuts on us so hopefully, it won't happen again since he is in the NFL.

How 'BOUT them Colorado State Rams??? After two losses in which the team looked weak, especially on D....

Down 27-17 to Arkansas at the end of the 3rd quarter, scoring 17 unanswered points in the 4th to win the game 34-27!!!

There was much gloom and doom in Fort Collins with the Razorbacks coming to town, even if they're not highly ranked in the SEC this year. This was a major turnaround that showed the team has come together and can actually play football. (Although don't forget that Arkansas was playing at 5,000 feet so the altitude was not kind to them in the 4th quarter.)

And my beloved Cougs cleaned up San Jose State with no problems, 31-0. The path is clear to WSU starting the conference schedule 3-0.

Washington looked about as bad as it's possible to look while winning 45-3 and running up more than 600 yards of total offense. Utah looked like they have a good defense and not much offense in getting by Northern Illinois. NIU isn't exactly a powerhouse. Who knows what will happen on Saturday. Utah is a giant killer at home, but they haven't exactly set the world on fire. Washington shot themselves in the foot against Auburn on multiple occasions and then sleep-walked through their game against North Dakota. If either of them get their act together, it could be an ugly game for the other team. If both get their act together, it could be a great game. If neither wake up, it could be one of the worst games played this season. It's almost like trying to figure out what will happen in an Ivy game.

I'm not happy about that, but can't argue the point. So much for hype. This weekend will be telling. Utah always plays Washington right down to the last snap. At least Washington doesn't have to play in the desert. That's been inexplicable Kryptonite for them lately.

Seriously, I don't know what Taggart is doing in Tallahassee, but keep me far, far away from whatever he's smoking. Y'all took care of your FCS warmup, Samford took FSU to the bloody wire.
