NCAA Week 14

Cain't hide money, huh!?

Airfare: $0. Frequent flyer reward ticket.
Lodging: $0. Aunt lives down the street from the Rose Bowl.
Rental Car: $0. Aunt will pick me up at airport, walk to game.
Game ticket: $0. Connections at UCLA.

Total Cost: maybe $150 for food, airport fees, and souvenir. I'll fly down the night before the game, fly home the morning after.

Not me. I always allowed for the possibility he would go, but I think he realizes what a good thing he's got going in Gainesville and he really doesn't want to move at least until the kids are all in college.

By the way, could this ND thing have worked out any better for the Gators?

Good point, GregC. The Bearcat players are pretty bitter over the way Kelly bailed on them. Before he left, I thought Cincy had a pretty good shot to win this game. Now, I'm thinking it's doubtful.

Not me. I always allowed for the possibility he would go, but I think he realizes what a good thing he's got going in Gainesville and he really doesn't want to move at least until the kids are all in college.

I thought I heard a sigh of relief from Gator Nation. A repeat of the the Utah/Bama debacle is unlikely.

Debacle...at least you used the right word.

It doesn't matter. If Cincy wins, it's a fluke/distraction/let down, whatever. It's not an outright win. If Florida wins, it's a matter of Cincy not being able to play with the big boys. Either way, the game is irrelevant, which is all I EVER argued for last year. Perception is reality, and most people will percieve this game with a bias regardless of the outcome. This is a wasted game for both teams.

Here's an interesting ESPN poll. Who should be the highest paid coach in the country?

The results of indivual states is what is interesting to me.

Obviously, Texas for Brown, Bama for Saban, Flawda for Urban, Cali for Carrol, etc.

But more than that, the geography surrounding each state.

The SEC and ACC is pretty heavily for Saban, outside of Florida.

Only Texas thinks Brown should be it.

Much of the Pac-10 gives the nod to Pete, but by a slim margin considering he's a coach in that region.

The area surrounding Utah goes to Meyer, presumably because of his tenure at Utah and the Utah defeat of Saban last year.

Much of the Big-10 area goes to Meyer, perhaps because of the OSU defeat at his hands.

Nobody gives Stoops the nod except Oklahoma, probably because he hasn't won a big game outside of his conference in years.

National vote is for Saban, which is no big surprise coming off a big win over Meyer. I'm sure last year's poll favored Meyer.

The Northeast is split between Meyer and Saban, except for Rhode Island which is in Carrol's favor.

Rhode Island is the perplexing state for me. I haven't looked up why that would be, and it's not coming to me off hand. Why would Rhode Island seem to poll in favor of Pete all the way on the oppostite coast? It doesn't make any sense to me. There has to be a connection I've forgotten, right?

You are correct, and my apologies for demeaning it so. I should have added the statement that it's a wasted game in terms of public opinion as it relates to what a victory means. As a Bama fan who lost to Utah last year, I can tell you that a loss means a lot to the fans who suffer it, and you don't want to take the game lightly. On a national stage though, I think there is very little that can be gleamed from a game like this given all the other circumstances surrounding it.

Bama will show up and most likely show up and beat Texas. They haven't been on this level in a long time and they'll make it count.

I'm just hoping that the SEC goes undefeated in its bowl games. There's a reason the SEC has been so dominant.

I haven't apologized for anyone. Stop putting words in my mouth. Either team could win the freakin' game, alright? I'm just saying that it won't mean anything afterwards for a lot of folks because they game will be overshadowed for one reason or another.

If Florida wins, people will say Cincy was distracted and missing Kelly. If Cincy wins, people will say Florida was let down from the Bama loss. I'm just saying what lots of other people will say. You're intent on acting like I'm making excuses for the SEC. How about this, if you don't like it, learn to deal with it rather than painting me out to be something I'm not. I'm not attacking you, or trying to make you out to be something. Learn some manners, or just stay out. I don't have time for your childishness.
