Mike, these teams are cursed with tweener syndrome. They are too good for the big boys to schedule. The chance of Florida or Iowa losing to the Utes or Frogs is too high.
Because you write a paragraph about it doesn't change the reality. It is fear, dude. The fear of losing to a non-BCS team.
To be fair, you above all would be hypersensitive about this.
Here's the irony: If you take on TCU, Utah, Boise, or Cincy your schedule looks BETTER, not worse. These teams are regular TOP 15 teams now; have been for several years.
Everybody (myself included) needs to embrace the new reality...... There are several teams crashing the party every year now. I would not be surprised if there is another major shake up in the BCS/ conference/ division lineups in the next 4-5 years.
Agreed, it would look better. Also true, it's not necessary for Alabama, Florida, Penn State, Ohio State, or any other such school to do that. We can get to the MNC game just fine without it. The little schools need us, not the other way around. Sad but true.
This is where you are wrong. Why do the teams I just mentioned above need to embrace anything right now? There is no motivation for them too. The top 3 teams for most of this season had the ability to cruise right into the MNC without even acknowledging those other teams even exist. I am NOT saying that is right. I am saying that it isn't the fault of the schools for things being that way. Don't blame them. It's up to the people who created the current system to fix it with a playoff (yeah right), or for those small schools to continue to play top knotch football and create the perception that they aren't getting a fair shake. Either path is going to take time.
Point taken..... But my point is that this is going to happen without the consent of the big 6 conferences.
It blows me away to think that Congress doesn't have better things to do, but I expect some type of legislation to be introduced that will mandate dissolving the BCS as an anti-trust violation. Lawmakers love this kind of issue, one that they can support without the fear they are alienating any supporters. The American love of "fair play" makes this an easy one to get behind.
I believe you are right there. The big 6 will kick and scream all through these changes. That's where 95% of the money is, so they'll have their way until there is massive public disapproval, and that isn't likely too happen since most folks pledge allegiance to a conference....until their team is screwed (Auburn), but then they forget or don't do anything because they feel powerless. I don't think this path will ever work.
It might take an act of Congress. But it's a bad time now politically for them to spend time worrying about football.
They're doing a home and home with the Vols as well. I thought it was cool to see LSU up at UW this season.

So what's the deal with Florida fans and Strong? Sometimes it seems like they were singing his praises. After one game, it seems as if everyone is glad to see him go. He's obviously done a good job there. Has the fan base really turned on him, or am I getting the wrong vibe from the fans I'm around?
I'm sad to see him go, but I also think he did a poor job preparing for the Bama game. I attribute that to the distraction of negotiating his Louisville deal.
He did a fine job building one of the best defenses in the country for sure. But hey, he also deserves a shot to coach a team. I think he bit off more than he can chew, but we'll see.

As for the Ducks, there is nothing more annoying in this world than Duck fans. I also don't like the fact that Nike subsidizes that school and they were a different jersey in every game.

Nothing more annoying in the world than Duck fans? The ones down here seem quite all right. There's no way they could possibly be more annoying than Trojan fans. Seeing all those USC people when their team comes up here to play fills me with so much rage that sometimes I wish there'd be a riot.
I don't like their uniforms currently either. But I can't really criticize on that front, as the Bears have terrible uniforms, too. As do many teams. It's a shame, as they both used to have really nice uniforms.
The only time when uniforms will decide who I root for is when I'm watching a game between teams that I don't favor one over the other for any other reason. Like Auburn vs. LSU or something.
I live just about in the middle between UW and UO, and it sucks. All the rich UW grads live in Seattle, and my area has the UO grads who can't quite make enough bank to live up there and torment their Pac-10 rivals.
I just get annoyed that every time I see highlights from a Duck game, they got something different on. Pick a couple and stick with it already, sheesh.

Agreed on most of this--I think he'll be fine as a head coach. Anyone who says they're glad to see him go just because of one game is a fool, IMO.
This. It's just ridiculous.
Oregon's rival is Oregon State. Washington's is Washington State.
I get annoyed by most football uniforms these days, especially my own favorite team's.
No team wins all the time, no matter who's coaching. Fans that get mad at a coach for the team losing one game are spoiled.
Well yeah, but I'm pretty sure it is OK to have more than one rival. The Washington/Oregon rivalry is fierce. If you don't live in Seattle or Eugene, you won't understand. The Ducks hate the Huskies, the Huskies hate the Ducks.
I went to a game in Autzen a few years ago in a UW t-shirt. We had UO fans spitting on us, cussing us out, and throwing things at us.

Interesting. I like both Washington and Oregon. In fact, I like pretty much all the Pac-10 teams besides SC, 'furd and ASU.
I actually hate USC much more than Stanford. Strangely, that's actually fairly common among Bears fans.
