NCAA Week 14

I disagree. [Invalid or Expired Link Removed], Bama ranks #20 in the nation in strength of schedule and UF 27th--a pretty small difference, wouldn't you say? TCU, meanwhile, ranks 84th and Boise 98th. I still think they deserve to be in their BCS slots, but don't tell me Florida didn't play anybody.

Artificial polls aside - who has Florida played? what was the toughest game they had all year going into Saturday? LSU on a "down year"? A 7-5 Arkansas team?

Florida is a GREAT team, I just think that a lot of SEC teams don't go out and schedule tough out of conference games because of how demanding their own conference is. The one team that went out and did that, came out on top of the conference.

controversy?

Why is TCU in the mix? I'd pick a florida/bama rematch before i'd pick TCU. who did they play all season? Utah? give me a break. If you want to be in the national championship, you've got to prove you can beat the best teams, and it's difficult to do that if you don't play any of them. To be honest, i think there are about 10 teams that could have a better NC showing than TCU. Call me crazy!

I'm convinced you're just trying to pull me offsides........ and I went for it!!

Dumbest football statement on the boards this year.

And that's an achievement. Hell, you took me off the hook for several ding-dong statements this year.

Did you see TCU play this year? I know the answer, because anyone who watched them beat the crap out of Virginia (top 25 team at the time), Clemson (they played for the ACC title this weekend), Utah(#16), BYU(#11), Air Force(in a blizzard),etc.... wouldn't ask who they played.

I think TCU is great, with Cinci close if not equal. Boise...good but not as close.

One way I like to think about this it to take other teams, and ask myself what they would do with TCU or Cinci's schedule. LSU, Ohio State, Oregon, Georgia Tech? They'd be undefeated I think, or at best a 1-loss team.

I also like to put those team's in an SEC schedule. I don't know that TCU, Cinci, or definitely Boise would be undefeated with Florida's schedule, much less Alabama, Ohio State, Notre Dame or LSU. I think they'd suffer 1-2 losses at least, and be beat up by the end of the year just like the rest of the BCS teams are. For the record, I think the same thing would happen in the PAC-10 or Big-12.

Given the current system, having TCU and Boise play each other is about as good as we can expect. It'll be a great game to watch, although it won't do much to help either team prove they can play with the bigger schools. If Cinci beats Georgia Tech, I don't think that will prove anything either, especially considering that Georgia Tech was beaten by a struggling Georgia team the week before they won the ACC Championship. Clemson got beaten by South Carolina the week before as well. I know those are rivalry games, but that's what big boy football is all about. More intense rivalries, more passion, more talent, more room for upsets and injuries. Even a playoff is a bit unfair I think because I believe teams like TCU, Cinci and Boise finish the season a lot fresher and healthier than Florida, Oregon, LSU, etc.

Why is Boise getting overlooked? Did the not beat the winner of the PAC-10?
They aren't getting overlooked.

You guys have to keep in mind that all the BCS does is try to rank the teams using a predetermined method, and then ensure that #1 and #2 play each other. After that, each bowl committee invites the teams to come and play in a preset order. They can only choose a team that hasn't already been selected.

This brings up a side discussion, which is that this is the whole reason that so many people are opposed to an 8 or even 16-team playoff. What about #17? They would still be where they are in the rankings because of polls and voting. It's much harder ranking teams with 2-3 losses than it is ranking teams with no losses. Someone will still think they got screwed and left out.

So does anyone think Suh deserves a trip to NYC?

I'm not saying give him the Heisman but if the award is really about the "most outstanding player" instead of "best player in a team playing for the NC", he is certainly in the top 4.
I can see where some would place him there, but I don't think he's definitely in the top 4 by any means. Spiller, Gerhart, Ingram, Tebow, McCoy, and Clausen just to name a few are all equally outstanding, and the argument can be made that any combination of those 4 deserve a place over Suh. In my opinion, it's perfectly valid to expect that the Heisman winner come from a team that is in the hunt for a BCS bowl, rather than a team that can barely hang on to a top 25 ranking.

Did I miss something or are you talking hypothetical here?
Yeah, sorry. What I meant was if the bowls had worked out as most were predicting since Georgia Tech wouldn't be coming from a championship loss AND a loss to a mediocre SEC team. I meant to add that since Cinci is playing Florida, and if they win, people will still think it was classic "let-down" play from Florida that allowed Cinci to win. I know some in this thread don't like to even entertain that thought, but it doesn't prevent people from thinking it. People will say "you remember how badly Tebow cried like a baby on national TV after the SECCG game. He just couldn't recover from that and get pumped up to play Cinci." You'll hear the what-if's on TV and in the end, Cinci will have proven nothing by beating Florida.

Don't believe me? What did Utah's win over Alabama do to change the season this year? Since Utah has drifted back off out of sight, nothing. By the time they put together another undefeated season, the impact of their Bama win will be neglected if not forgotten. The same will happen to Cinci if they beat Florida if they don't follow it up with another big season. I don't necessarily endorse that thinking, but it is what it is.

Then why are Clausen and Spiller on your list?
Not my personal list, but the general public opinion list.

I also don't like that former Heisman winners get a vote. IMO it makes it much too easy for them to just vote for/against a candidate from their alma matter, rival, conference, etc. Of course media pundits are no better or worse. The trophy is really overrated in my view.

What changed this year? Let me help you......

Utah didn't drift off. They had a nice year and lost to TCU. They will be taking on a very good Cal team in their bowl game.

There are TWO non-qualifier teams in the BCS for the first time.

TCU is ranked #4. Boise is #6. There has never been a non-qualifier team ranked higher than #8 since the BCS started. Now there are two.

As for the impact of the Utah win last year, it still rings loudly thru college football. I see you are already tuning up for the SEC loser's lament:

People will say "you remember how badly Tebow cried like a baby on national TV after the SECCG game. He just couldn't recover from that and get pumped up to play Cinci."

Not "people" Eublet, you will be saying it. Sadly, I don't think you have to worry about that this year. I see Florida rolling up on Cincy without much trouble. The BCS powers-that-be fixed it for you. No Frogs or Broncos to worry about. Good to see you laying the groundwork, just in case.:smug:

well, you'll notice i'm from Denton. GO MEAN GREEN!

This McCoy? :D

I can't access YouTube from work. Which clip of McCoy is this?

Is it from 2006 when he beat you in Lincoln?

Or is it from 2007 when he beat you in Austin?

Or maybe it's from when he beat you in Arlington Saturday?

I guess you're lucky the schedule was your buddy and you got to skip playing the Horns in 2008, huh?

Dude, the Huskers played great Saturday. They took a National title contender to the bottom of the ninth inning and came up short. Don't diminish it by trying to crack on a QB that is 3-0 against you.

I think that Suh should be in NYC, if not getting the award.

Here's why: I think the award should occasionally go to a defensive player -- otherwise it's just an offensive award. Suh is the most dominant defensive player I've seen in college in years. Combine that with a year in which there's no real standout offensive performer, and I think he should win it.

He kept Nebraska in that game practically by himself. Other than jump in on offense, I don't know what more the guy can do.

I bet he's the first pick in the draft, too.
