NCAA Week 7

SEC matchup weekend! :bassist:

Auburn vs Arkansas
Holy damn was last week's game a disappointment. I've lost all faith in the spread and really believe that Tony Franklin will be gone at the end of the season. At least I hope so. Regardless, even with the offense as bad as it looks, I think Auburn will still take down Arkansas with not a lot of trouble. 27-7 Auburn.

Georgia vs Tennessee
The Bulldogs have had a week to recover and revamp from the loss to Bama and will come out ready to play against Fulmer's lackluster season thus far. This is going to be brutal. 38-3 Dawgs.

Florida vs LSU
Oh man will this be a good game. Both teams with something big to prove here. LSU looks good this year but Florida has something bigger to prove, seniority at QB, and home field advantage. 21-17 Gators.

South Carolina vs Kentucky
Kentucky is a better football team. Period. 28-13 Wildcats.

Big week for the Gators as you point out. Going to Neyland is no cakewalk any year, but this is the first of a few big games coming up.

Total scum bag move by the LSU defensive lineman to talk about trying to take Tebow out of the game. They should suspend that idiot for a few weeks.

Dr.....why are there Google ad's for Auburn ring tones at the bottom of my screen????? :D

Tubberville is saying that he has confidence in Tony, but if he follows his past, Tony will be gone for sure at the end of the season, that is unless something big happens and they start winning all their games in a big fashion. I don't think it will happen. I also don't think this is Tony's fault. Auburn doesn't have the kids to run the spread. Quarterbacks are only average at best in a more traditional offense. Running backs are average, along with the recievers. If they want to stick with this offense, they're going to have to give it some time to grow, and recruit the players they need to run it. But that's going to be tough to do while you're playing poorly, and with Saban next door recruiting hard, along with Meyers pulling the talented kids down their for his spread offense, well...Auburn has a long road ahead of them. Kind of sucks because I wanted them to be good for a while once Bama started coming back into power. It won't be as much fun to try and beat them now.

Auburn will survive. For years, Oregon and Oregon State had the same problem. USC and UW were pulling all the kids out this way, leaving OU and OSU with the "scraps".

They still got good kids, just not elite. All those kids got a chance to play at Oregon instead of being buried on high school all-star benches at USC and UW. Oregon is not so good this year, but they have been way better than UW for years now, and right behind USC.

True, and that's pretty much my point. Auburn has never been "elite" in terms of success (no national championships), and the success they did enjoy came during the time when Bama was severely crippled, and even Georgia and Florida were having issues. Auburn is pretty much surrounded on three sides by these schools now. I just don't think Tubberville has what it takes to recruit the players he needs to have a spread offense that can compete successfully in the SEC. Even Meyer, with his superhero quarterback, is having a hard time doing it. I think Auburn will survive, but after the fans have finally gotten a taste of what it means to be nationally relevant, I don't know that they'll settle for going back to anything less. I think Tubberville has maybe one more year after this one at Auburn, and he'll be gone.

Auburn has been a great, great team over the years. Please don't try and pin Auburn's success on how some other teams are "struggling." That probation card is really old. Also, for the last few years, Bama hasn't been able to keep their players out of jail. Auburn is full of GREAT (which you call average) players at key positions. Auburn has much more to speak of in terms of success than Bama for a while now (let's not forget undefeated '04 Auburn that deserved to be in the national title game). I really don't see how you're pointing that Tommy will be gone in a year or so when he's done a great job at Auburn.

I don't mean disrespect when I say these things. Auburn is always an SEC powerhouse. I mean more on the national scene. However, most people think it no coincidence that Auburn's national relevance over the last decade had nothing to do with Bama's demise. Why do you think the NCAA punishes teams by limiting recruiting? Because it limits the program's success, which hurts the program and the bottom dollar. Auburn capitalized on this. At the very least, it gave them an easier win over the Tide. Tommy was mangled on the recruiting trail this past season. It's a trend that's likely to continue, especially after a struggling offense this year.

I went to school at Auburn. It's an old school with an old football program that has a lot of tradition. It's just not a tradition that's nationally relevant. That's all I mean. With Bama getting back on the scene, I just think it'll make life that much harder for Auburn.

But no doubt, they should have had a shot at it in 2004. But that was a very unique year, and most people just didn't think Auburn was quite good enough. I disagree with them, but not being nationally relevant historically was a big part of the problem.

the demise of Tony Franklin and the "spread eagle" is official. looks like he'll need to lower the price of "the tony franklin system" dvd a few hundred $ if he wants to keep selling on infomercials...

so you think AU will stay dedicated to the spread like Tubbs said they would yesterday? will they go back to the west coast O? maybe a something else?

I think he mis-spoke, based on reading the original quote, and knowing about Ricky Jean-Francois, I'm sure he meant to say "take him out of his game" not "take him out of the game". He's not a dirt-bag type of player.

That said, tough game for Florida this week. They lost to a very weak Old Miss, and didn't really impress on their win in Arkansas. They'd better show up a lot better than those two games, or it will be a very ugly day in The Swamp, this will be the biggest, fastest, hardest-hitting defense Tebow & Co. have seen this season by far, and the running game of the Tiger offense is pretty brutal, the Gators will need to commit at least 8-9 to the box to stop Charles Scott and the very solid O-line for LSU. Of course, that means that the corners will be on an island most of the time, and better be on their A+++ game...

I'm thinking LSU is up for this one, and that's not going to bode well for UF:

LSU 27
UF 13

....you gotta "Pocket Full Of Kryptonite"?

No, but LSU will need it.

When you wrap this up, would you play "Two Princes" or "Little Miss Can't Be Wrong" for us, please?

:D

-Mike
LOL! Well played, Mike!
I'd say that the 9 "we can start on any defense in the SEC, and most of us in the NFL" defensive linemen from LSU are all the kryptonite needed.
Nine DLs that fit that criteria? That's hyperbolic even considering the source.:D

I see Mizzou beating Oklahoma state this weekend. Thats all I really care to say about that.

The real game to watch will be the Oklahoma vs. Texas game. Both programs are doing pretty well this year, so it'll be interesting to see who comes out on top. I see Oklahoma coming out on top, but this could be Texas's chance to shine. Its interesting for us, since Mizzou plays Texas next week and I have sneaking suspicion we'll be playing Oklahoma in the Big XII championship.
