NCD: Mesa Subway 212!

Just got my new Mesa Subway Series 212 cabinet! I can't count how many times I've posted on TalkBass not so subtly hinting to @agedhorse that the bass world is waiting for some larger cabs to go with the superb D800 and 800+ heads. Well, Mesa came through in the biggest way possible. THIS CAB IS PERFECT. Sound is outstanding. Articulate, if I had to choose just one word. All the pristine volume you could hope for. Form factor is great. At only 55 lbs. this cab is going everywhere with me. I've played it at a single rehearsal so far but I'm positive this is the one. I can honestly say that this is the last head/cab I will ever buy.

Some years ago (pre agedhorse era I think) when I was visiting our good friends at Mesa in beautiful Petaluma, Tien and Doug let me demo a prototype 2x12 that had very similar dimensions as this cab. It's cool that they put out a Subway version.

I have been a huge fan of well designed and equipped 212 cabs. Its such a nice format .. not too big, not too small and works for just about everything. My own favorite flavor is the Berg CN212, but I can totally imagine Andy and company getting this format totally right.

I feel another trip up to Petaluma is in order ... to check out the WD-800 and some of the Subway cabs (even though I just don't need any more/new cabs).

Seeing the size of the cab compared to the P makes me rethink my wanting one. The price theyre getting for it sure dont look like $1200 worth of cabinet. Maybe just get a flat pack for a Fearfull and do my own....maybe two.

I never heard that a cabs physical size when compared among the same speaker size and count was not big enough so I passed.

So if they made it bigger, then it would be worth the money?

I guess that is a metric, though I happily pay more money for smaller cabinets that sound big. Everybody has their priorities...

I got to play a pre production 2x15 and it was awesome. Butttttt i didnt compare to the depth, and volume of that depth, to my fearful 2x12 setup. It was a very nice cab and sized very well for the subway line, ie being as small as possible while sounding as good as it gets for that size. The key is definitely in the last part of that sentence....yes it would sound even better being even bigger....but it wouldnt be a subway rig. Excellent choice for max tone/sound out of one small cab. Excellent tradeoffs were made to create a great sounding cab

Do you have a preference for one over the other? Can the 2x12 produce enough bumpin' bottom to come close to the 2x15 if eq'd properly?

The short YouTube demo of them seemed to show more clarity and a tighter low end coming from the 2x12.

I played a subway 4x10 yesterday and loved it. Then tried a Subway 2x10 on top of a Subway 1x15. I preferred the 4x10. This leads me to wanting to hear the Subway 2x12. The amp I used was the new Mesa WD-800. KILLER combo with the 4x10. Tonal perfection for what I like. But I don't usually need a 4x10 and prefer the taller, more narrow 2x12.

I was searching for more reviews of people who own and gigging the new Mesa Subway 2x12. The 2x12 form factor and price point make a lot of sense. Has anyone else tried one? I'd love to A-B it with my Bergantino CN212. Just love the Mesa build quality and voice.

Only had a few hours with it today, in the store and at home. Very impressed with the depth of tone and definition and loud! I knew almost immediately when I played through it that it was a cab for me. Works really well with the D800+ and is killer with the Trace elf, my backup amp. Will use it on my gig this Friday.
