I think there's a good anthropology paper in all these different IM platforms. Look at it this way, if you have MSN, and someone else has AIM, you can't converse. So I think it's logical to start asking how social circles are altered by IM clients. If you are on client, do you start to drift away from those friend on another client. What if you are introduced to a new circle (new job, school et cetera), is there then a sort of peer pressure to adopt the IM client preferred in that circle?

TalkBass' resident Bongo + cowbell player
Recently, I installed Google Talk and tried it with a friend. Amazing sound quality! And just talk without that "clever" idea of first recording what you're going to say, as in the latest MSN (another Microsoft stupidity IMO). I'm not a fan of IMs, but I'd like to see that TalkBass fellas added me. Maybe on vacation, when I stay the most at home, I'd like to chat with some of you, specially for practicing my listening (my weakest aspect of English as a second language).
