neck pocket fitting

hello, im making the neck pocket on a piece of wood before making it on a body im working on.

The problem happens when i connect the neck with the screws. the neck gets lifted by the screws by two milimeters or 1,5.

i believe the problem is the depth of the neck pocket or maybe the screws....

The neck pocket screw holes should be larger than the screws. The screws should easily pass through the holes without resistance. The screws thread in to the neck. If the larger holes in the neck pocket don't line up with the smaller, threading holes in the neck then the only solution is to see if you can make the neck pocket holes a little larger so the screws can easily pass through the body and align with the neck screw holes. You're making a change to the body/neck pocket holes, not the neck. You may have to open up the holes in the neck plate as well.

That's right! I forgot you had a test pocket.
The trick then is to do a blind transfer of the neck hole pattern to the body.
You won't get this by trying to measure where the holes are and using those measurements on the body.
You'll need to figure out some way to insert something into the neck screw holes that will protrude below the holes just enough so they will indent the wood on the body enough just to mark the hole location in the neck pocket.
You will have to drill from inside of the pocket through to the back of the body. This will require extra precautions so you don't split out the wood when the drill bit comes through.

Yup! That would do the trick nicely.

I suppose for most builds they either have templates, or drill the body holes first and mark the neck by going through the body holes.

Yeah, I only do that when the neck already has screw holes and I don't want to fill them in and redrill.

If the neck has no holes, I clamp it into the pocket, find the drill bit that fits snugly in the body holes then either turn it by hand a couple of times or chuck it in a drill and run it backwards for a second to mark the hole locations.
