Neck Shim rigid or not

As a temporary measure I've put the neck from another bass on a new body. This neck will be used 'til a new neck intended for this instrument arrives and I suspect it will sit better in the neck pocket.

In order to get the action at the height I prefer (and with one of the saddles bottomed out) tried 3 business cards as a neck shim.

This was better, but still not enough. These gave about .035 change, but more was needed. I found a neck plate laying around with a thickness of .072 and used that with good results.

I felt using the uncompressable neck plate would, in fact, be better than adding additional compressable paper shims.

Am I thinking about this correctly?

Well, you're saying this is just a temporary fix until the new neck comes in. So... I think that if the neck plate is working for you, that it's put this neck in a better place, then you're done. FWIW, business cards aren't all that compressible. I think they'd have worked just fine.

Another thing I've used in a pinch with good results are quality playing cards. I prefer to use the Ace of Spades for small gaps and the Queens of Hearts for large ones. :D
