Well, maybe not anytime soon. Composed a big post in my head and then didn't feel like typing it in. Too much like reliving it...
Just got back on the Doxycycline today, was off yesterday due to a screwup between CVS and the hospital pharmacy and insurance. Sheesh, tryin' like ta kill me all over again...

Why, I went to the hospital, of course! Sigh. Went in for cellulitis in that leg (also MRSA, but not fleash-eating). Had that just about beaten when one of the blisters on the front got re-infected and went in deep.
Got the same issue here. Susan broke her knee cap and developed MRSE (epidermis) & clostridium perfringens (myonecrotic / "gas gangrene") post-op. Weeks of IV antibiotics and now on doxycycline...the human body does NOT like nor tolerate implanted metal. Plate and screws come out 11/04.

Has no one suggested a wound vac? I had a largish chunk removed when a visit to a local ER for an infected spot on my leg refused to cooperate with the usual OTC antibiotic salve and while on an overnight stay to get a few bottles of supercharged antibiotic drips, I was also gifted with a dose of MRSA. The hospital covered all the costs of the surgery to cut out the effected tissue, then sent me home. They also covered a thrice weekly home health visit for wound packing/dressing changes. After a few weeks my in home RN sent me in to see a different doctor and he put me on a wound vac. It's a portable vacuum pump and some high speed sealing film that covers the wound and keeps a steady vacuum on it. Think mini hyperbaric chamber. Anywho, not only does it keep the nasty discharge sucked out, it also encourages tissue growth to fill in the hole. My gaping slash didn't fill in completely but it almost did. Instead of a 3/4 inch divot across my lower leg, i wound up with maybe an 1/8 inch deep, much shorter divot. It was a major PITA for a few weeks but it was well worth the end result, at least for me.

I was on the wound vac for the better part of 3 weeks, most of my progress is due to that thing. Yeah, they really work!
My company does a lot of NPWT / negative pressure wound therapy....yes, it works! We're in cahoots with local surgeons and wound clinics. I forget what pump we're using THIS month....Medela, Molnlycke?

I don't recall the brand names. There was a big clunky one at the hospital, then a much smaller, more portable one at the rehab place. Very strange sensation at first, but worked wonders!

I noticed it shortly after it happened- and I joked about having an ingrown hair- the next morning I had brown goop dripping out of a hole in my leg- the hole got big enough that I could put the entire head of a q tip in and not touch the bottom or sides. I still have a scar the size of a dime on my calf.

Themmer nasty! Found one here, on outside patio furniture, but I smooshed it before it could do any damage. Haven't seen others, but thanks for the warning reminder!
