need a hobby to get over boredom

from scratch no. i happened to just borrow a friends guitar, though the amp has a loud natural static noise, which i think is the guitar being poorly grounded. its fun to use the distortion on the amp, but trying to learn songs and having to hold 4 strings down at once is a pain to learn, plus you cant just play a note on a string, you need to do chords and stuff. its too much a pain.

for the band thing, my friend has been trying to get together a punkish band, but im not sure where thats going. i have atleast jam with him now and then. another guy at my school would love to start a metal band, but trying to figure out who and how and when is probably too much to think of right now. i would prefer a metal band though. so for now, im just waiting for an opportunity to arise.

You can single pick notes on strings, it adds flourish and fill between chords. Takes practice. I'm also learning guitar in my spare time. Keep at it and you'll find some interesting note/chord combo's... especially if you fingerpick. It's not all strumming, after all.

When I was in basic training we would go to a pizza place on Sunadys when we got a pass. There was a DJ there every week to play music and he had built his own speekers. They were two sheets of plywood with about five car speakers mounted to each one and then stood up on either side of his turntable.

I recomend a better book than he got.:D

Radio Shack used to be the best source for the stuff you need, including good begginer electronics books. I once had a book on building speakers from there. You could also get every part you need form them. Unfortunately, the stores in this area have gone almost totally cellphone, ipod and toy central, and carry very few of the electronics parts for building projects.

Don't forget to try out the magazie section at your book store, as there are some good electronics, hobby and project magazines available that might be helpful.

Make chords with your bass and your voice. Root on the bass, and you sign third, fourth, fifth.

Root and third on the bass, and you sing a seventh. Etc.

'tis fun to me. I'd make circuits for fun, but since Radio Shack turned into Circuit City, they don't sell circuit stuff anymore.
