Need a LIGHT bass overdrive?

I concur that the DHA VT-1, Sansamp VT Bass or BDDI, Digitech Bad Monkey, and Behringer BDI21 (the last 2 being the cheapest easiest option) will do what you want, all work really well for a typical 'P-Bass played with a pick' punk tone.
 
I dunno what it will sound like on bass but my t-rex mud honey has an incredible "usable" distortion. it doesnt go metal. I'll rip it off my guitar pedal board today if I have a sec and see if it does a bass justice.

also a buddy of mine is raving about their tube bass dist . . . forget what its called(bass juice?) . I see t-rex pedals from time to time on craigslist for decent $$
