Need a new bass

I want to upgrade my bass as i'm playing alot more now. Can anyone recommend one? My price range is between about $500-$1000, and I like very punchy lows (I don't know if the bass makes a difference to that sound, or if it's just the amp but i'll put it out there). I would prefer it to be versatile, although that's not nessecary as long as I love the sound. Can anyone give recommendations? I'm completely open to the type/brand of bass. Thanks:bassist:

You can get a used, in like new condition, USA G&L L2000 or JB-2 for $700-800 on average. The L2000 is very versatile, and can sound punchy or full; the JB-2 being a J-bass type (w/o pickguard) will be naturally punchy with alnico single coil pickups. They're both boltnecks which tend to be punchy; if you get one with an ash body the punchiness increases.

These are really fine basses, and ridiculously good at their used prices.

Schecter bass with EMG-HZ's and Emg Pre amp. If I were you I'd get a lower priced model, Not the Elite. I've had nothing but problems getting a good set up with mine and the neck-thru doesn't work to well...

I have a MM Sterling bass... smaller spacing... love the punch & cuts through the mix live. I'll never sell it, never. Control your tone with the midrange knob & midrange on your amp. I can get practically any tone

G&L Tribute L2000. Built well enough you'll own it the rest of your life. Plenty of tonal options and just a great bass.

Other choice, for contemporary worship, is the Tribute L2500. Use mine nearly every Sunday. Great bass as well. Big neck, but extremely comfortable.

It really depends on what YOU want in a bass.

Precision bass:
What you think of when you think of BASS.
They provide lots of low end, and will fill empty space really well in a band situation. If you'd rather be felt, this is the one for you.

Dear and the Headlights - Sweet talk

I'm looking at an Ibanez SR400QM or SR300 (they're both the same, just the 400 has a quilted maple top, looks better). Will this suit my needs? Thanks for all the input so far, but i don't really want a Fender, apart from maybe a Jag. I'd prefer a mid-range bass for now, then after playing for a few years and when i start gigging, upgrade to a Ric 4003 or 'Wick Corvette $$
