Need advice regarding my neighbors

Are they renting the house? If so, you might try contacting the landlord. We had this problem one time, pit bulls not being kept in and would chase you all over. The funny thing was that the landlord turned out to be a vet who was on the animal control board of directors. The tenants got the message quick and the dogs were removed. Even if their landlord isn't part of animal control, they may still not be happy to hear what's happening on their property.

Wouldn't cooking meth be enough to evict?

I just spoke with my local police department and this is their recommendation:

1) If there is a person who is injured as a result of a dog attack, then get documentation of injury. A medical report of treatment by d0ctor is ideal. At the very least, take pictures of injury.

2) If you see dogs running loose, take pictures with your cell phone camera.

Injury plus documentation = police will be compelled to resolve the issue. They will deal with the owner directly to ensure dogs will no longer be a threat. If the police in your town refuse to intervene, then they are being grossly neglectful in their duty.

Well, let's see.if I have the score correct.

People have been injured. The police already know this.

Meth heads who deal are already out of prison in a matter of months.....and have the dogs back somehow.

They kept their home, where they were drug dealers.....and they got the dogs back.

And you somehow think THE SYSTEM is going to help him with this???????

You just may be the most naive person I have encountered in a while.

If maintaining a dwelling for the sale and distribution of drugs gets you a shirt vacation and you get to keep your home....

If humans already being attacked got them to do exactly zero....

What in the world makes you think a doctor bill is going to take them to the next level?

Oy. :rollno:

Man, protect your family. If you can't gather the backbone to shoot them, UT a trap and put some dog food in it. When they take the bait, throw them in your vehicle and take them 20 miles away. Set them free until the woods.

Know this. Some dog owned by a human takes a chunk out of my wife or kids, the dog dies quick and the owner gets a punch in the neck. A dog I don't know getting violent gets no more preferential treatment than a bobcat, snake or bear attacking.

"Not the dog's fault" .... Who cares? Protecting your family is your job big guy. Protecting the squishy feelings of animal lovers is not.

If you can come up with a humane way to deal with it quickly, go for it. If not, send the kids to grandma's house and shoot the dang dogs.

OP here. Time to move. New neighbors six houses away have a pit bull that got loose this week, chased some people until the owner got it under control. Awesome. Spoke with the police sergeant about the dog issue, told him about the pit bull, he said that house is also being watched because of meth. Makes sense, the guy's face is covered up in sores snd his teeth are awful. So, 13 houses on a dead end street, at least 2 are full of meth users. And the best part is the new meth heads are friends with the others, I watched them walk back and forth between their houses last night. I'm done. Real estate agent coming this week.

If they bite you take them to court. Sue them.
Civil case, you could own their house.
I like the spicy meatball.
My friend had a long standing issue with the neighbors 2 Doberman's
running free all the time. After 3 warning and several attacks on his family
he shot both dogs, called the Police and the neighbor. End of issue.

Re-read what I posted. I outlined the legal process as it is supposed to take place. I also acknowledged that his situation may just be an example of the police being too lazy to do their job. Since there was already a multitude of examples of advice to kill the dogs and beat up the owners I decided that saying the same thing was redundant. I just said that if it's necessary to kill a nuisance animal, then use a method other than poison.

Know this. There are many ways to deal with difficult or dangerous situations like this. Your prefered method is just about the most dangerous to your kids and yourself.

We're talking about a dense residential area, not an isolated ranch in the wilderness. If a dog attacked my child, I wouldn't waste time going to retrieve a gun (unless you are conceal carry and most people aren't). Attack the dog yourself. Kick it repeatedly and it will run away. Pick up your child and get them safely indoors. Call the cops and have them deal with it. It's unbelievable to me that the OP lives where the police would refuse to do their jobs to keep the neighborhood safe from rampaging dogs like this. In fact, I don't believe it.

Most importantly, you want to go off half cocked and beat up the dogs' owners? Get real. He said they're method heads. What makes you think that you're the only one who is eager to whip out a gun and start shooting? Go to their house to beat sombody up and that makes you the criminal. You can't protect your family if you're sitting in jail. Or the morgue.

I'm all for being a vigilante when it's obvious the authorities aren't going to be there for you. But you have to be smart about it.

Believe it. Here's the protocol:
Unless the dogs cause bodily injury to a human or owned pet they can only observe the animal until Animal Control shows up to subdue it. If the owner gets the dogs before AC shows up (which they do every time because AC only works 8-4 M-F) then they can do nothing. The only time AC actually showed up it was over an hour after the cop showed up. If the animal causes injury then they submit a warrant and wait for the judge to decide to either: get and destroy the dogs, arrest the owner, or write a citation.
My latest conversation with the sergeant ended with him telling me that if it were him he'd just shoot it. So yeah, kill the watchdogs of a meth house. I'm sure that would have no repercussions...

Sorry to say this, but the OP is not only right about LE's reaction, it is not just wandering dogs they ignore. I don't live in Birmingham, but i used to. These days we live in the country because the neighborhood (in town) we once lived in went from a nice quiet little place to mini gang wars at the apartments a couple blocks away. I'd hear gunshots and call the cops and the person who answered usually had the attitude of "so you heard gunshots, what do you want us to do about it?" Most of the city cops i had dealings with were decent enough, but they are constrained by some seriously messed up policy regarding procedure, and it was precisely that which motivated us to move out into the sticks.

Okay, I stand corrected.

Apparently, there are large areas of America where the police are just useless parasites on society and have no interest in maintaining public safety.

I guess my advice would have to be carry a loaded gun at all times and shoot anybody or anything that gets in your way.
