need cab advice

so i currently run a lame 410 and an old 118. i like the tone of the 118, but nothing matches it at all, and it's ugly. i'm looking into either a 215, or maybe a different 115/410 combo.

my dream cab is something like a mesa roadready powerhouse 1000. the one with 4 10's with a 15 in the middle.

in terms of vintage growl with pretty high output, should i pair my traynor yba-200 with a:

mesa rr powerhouse 410-115
emperor custom 215 (they use eminence)
sunn 215

or any other suggestions? i live in vermont, and hate the idea of spending $100 just to ship a cab. but i'm willing to drive somewhere relatively close. (i.e. boston) or can anyone refer me to someone who is selling something sweet with big speakers in it?

also, suggestions for other products would be helpful. plus it's fun to talk about stuff like this on this forum.

I personally would do either a 215 rig or an 810 rig and forget about mixing and matching cabs. As you've found with your 18", mixing cabs and speaker sizes for the same frequency range is a real crapshoot, and all of them, IMHO, introduce at least a little bit of phasing, which is why you don't like your 410 and 118 together. Some people like mixed cab rigs, but I've never played a single one that I 100% liked, ever.

Can't suggest any brands to you because there are so many out there, but definitely consider one or the other and not a mixed rig. That's my 2c anyway, but it's a 2c that's backed up by the knowledge of serious audio professionals.

yeah. well, i kinda like the tone of my setup together, and i don't mind the phasing, because there isn't so much that it's cutting into my headroom if anything, it's cutting a bit of high mids, which is okay for me, because my head seems to have a natural mid boost. however, the tone of the 410 is not very good. the 118 however, is awesome, but i'm not particularly fond of it by itself for some reason. i think i've decided on the sunn 215, because it's being sold to me for $425.

does that sound like a reasonable price? it's apparently in good condition, and the speakers are in good shape. not exactly sure how old it is, though.

My favorite by far are the AcmeBass.com cabinets, but they are power hungry and have a lower max SPL as compared to most. Fidelity or volume - take your pick.
