Need help choosing the correct/best replacement speaker!

I'm replacing the blown speaker in my 115, just because the cab I need is an $800 410 and I figure I can sell the repaired 115 for at least what I pay for the new speaker.

However, I'm not sure which speaker. With any luck I will only use this for 6-12 months before upgrading to a 410. Therefore I'm not sure I need to put the most expensive speaker I can in it, since I think it will sell for close to the same regardless of what I put in it.

So, the choices, from best to worst...they might not even all be the correct speaker, and feel free to make other suggestions.

Kappalite Neo ($210) http://www.amazon.com/Eminence-Kapp...GRGE/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1330895646&sr=8-1

Deltalite Neo ($170) Amazon.com: Eminence Deltalite II 2515 Neo 15 Driver: Electronics

Delta Pro Cast Frame ($135) Amazon.com: Eminence Delta Pro 15 Cast Frame Speaker: Musical Instruments

Delta 15A Guitar Speaker ($92) Amazon.com: Eminence Delta 15A Guitar Speaker: Musical Instruments

Delta 15 Speaker ($89) Amazon.com: Eminence Delta 15 Speaker (400 Watts, 15 in.) (8 Ohms): Electronics

I'm guessing the last two aren't even the correct speakers for this bass cabinet.

First step is finding out the info on the original speaker like xmax, thiele, and the like and find one comparable. Another option would be to find a speaker parameter software to plug in the specs and it will tell you the best fit. Not every cab is made the same so different speakers will have different responses in different cabs.

if you want the best sound, then order the driver that is supposed to be in it, or have the original reconed (if it's the right speaker). While I agree with Von Flugenheimers post, finding a speaker with the same specs is going to be difficult.

Why not just have the original reconed? It should be less than a replacement. I've had 15s reconed for $75

Unless you cracked/broke the magnet or bent the speaker's frame, reconing will fix it. the voice coil (part inside the magnet that has the wire wrapped around it) is what goes bad when a speaker blows. When they recone a speaker they replace the whole cone and the voice coil is attached to the cone at the base.

Check around and get some prices, you'll find it's probably cheaper than even cheap decent replacement.

Resale isn't going to be anything substantial.

This.

If you just want to throw a working speaker in it. Yeah it might not be 100% to spec but Carvin throws this same 15 in similar size cabs.

Edit: The 8ohm version is the same price if you want to keep it to 8ohm spec.

That 115 isn't really going to add anything. I would just buy the 69 dollar Carvin and sell it for 125-150 locally.

I highly disagree. I have been playing the 410/115 stack naively for 9 years now. Without the 15 under it I can't get the volume I want, or at least am used to. It makes a big difference.

Still want to know the difference between a Delta Pro and a Delta Pro A

And still trying to get an answer if the 250W speaker being sold on here will work, which I'm guessing it will not

Asked a guy locally about reconing and he said he couldnt even find the kit.....found it online within about 30 seconds of looking. One more place in town to try tomorrow.

That's mostly because the 410 is then hitting you in the ears instead of the knees. The 15 really adds very little to the overall output.

250/400 watts doesn't matter in this case, they'll all be hitting their excursion limits before that anyway. You're also not consistently using anywhere near as much of your power as you think you are.

Just get yours re-coned. If you're going to keep and play this thing, the Delta-Pro may not be such a bad choice, xlim is so high maybe you won't kill it.

The "A", is just an identifier for 8 ohms.

.
That's because (as I've probably said 900 times in those 9 years) any two cabs together will sound better than either alone. That's not the same as any two random cabs together being the best possible combination.

None.

ahh the old mixing cabs v identical pairs debate again....

i got a mate who asked me advise about adding a second cab, and WOW,,, he listened and bought a second peavey 410 TVX, now i dont believe these cabs to be amazing, good value for money, yes, but 2 of them!! very nice indeed,, far better than a 410+115 combo.

when he bought this 2nd cab he actually bought a 410+115 and the peavey 700 watt head, he tried it,, as you would, then tried the 2 x 410s,, the truth was clear,

he has since sold the 115 and his old 450 watt head and is very happy

and they all lived happily ever after :D
