The tech 21 xxl bass edition distortion pedal is a good choice for distortion if you play metal. the devi ever cherry pop is an excellent choice for a fuzz pedal if you desire a fizzy sounding fuzz that has plenty of low-ends.

Need help deciding on multiple distortion setup

I still say you should track down an FKR. I've never heard so many different dirt tones out of one box, what with the multiple clipping sections and such. Extremely versatile, very high gain. Sorta meh in a band situation, but at home it was oodles of fun.
A Swollen Pickle is still based on a muff with heavy mods and a Supercollider is based on a muff with some mods so you might end up having to choose between the two, on the other hand two muffs on a board isn't a bad thing for heavy distortion. As you said in post #1 try out a DE Cherry Pop, very heavy and fuzzy and it can get odd.
I think the XXL is a good choice too, I had the original and even though it wasn't me I found it more of a distortion/extreme OD then a fuzz.
Also you might want to think about EQs and filters to get even more sounds out of what you are going for, you can go a long way with a bit of freq shaping.
