Need Help with new Squier Sonic Bronco

It's not right, they either lied, didn't have the proper short scale strings at hand as many shops do, or did not know what they were talking about ("best" case scenario.) My take would be that they did not want to help you with the strings/would t a ke a special order/did not want to bother-in short, I find it disrespectful. *ALL* short-scale strings will fit a 30 scale Sonic Bronco, be they roundwounds, La Bella flats, or the thickest tapewounds-I have a Sonic Bronco as well, the stock tuning machine style can accomodate anything designed for short scale basses.

Please enjoy your bass without being prejudiced by the store employee's comment.

I don't see any pics so I doubt your Bronco even exists.

Really.??..the guy is new to TB, I myself have only been on this year. It took me weeks to work out how to post pics, I still ONLY can post pics taken while I'm posting, can't use existing pic's from my phone.
Other than that, to cast aspersions over new peoples credibility, seems petty, and slightly childish.

I can't see how a pic makes a question, either valid or not!

But these are the updated clover style tuners on the new Sonic Broncos, the Affinity Broncos had Y style tuners.

I've had a set of Chromes on my Bronco for the better part of 10 years and they're just fine.

The "techs" at the shop are just covering their own butts in the rare instance that something goes wrong.

Buy the flats you want, watch some videos about doing a setup (adjusting the neck and bridge) and restringing a bass, and do it yourself. Those "techs" aren't worth their money.

i hope im in the right Forum.

I just bought a Squier Sonic Bronco and askes the guitar store, if they can put Flats on it. A Day after, they send me an e-mail saying, that they cant put shortscale Flats on it because the Tuners on the Sonic Series dont fit regular shortscale Flats. They said the diameter of the string posts is to small so you cant fit normal Shortscale Flats(La Bellas or Chromes, etc.) on it.

Now my Question:
Does anyone of you know if thats right? Or do you have a Sonic Bronco with Flats on it?
I want to put La Bellas or Chromes on it but if thats not possible i need a diffrent Bass.

No, I don't own one of those; I'm a lefty who has to play that way, and that's just one of many, many basses that don't come in a left handed model. However...
Looking at pics of one on the Sweetwater site? The tuners are standard, non-tapered post bass tuners, and the bridge is a standard, top-load only bridge. Speaking as the owner of... 10, last time I counted... short scale basses; yeah, they're full of it. There may be a few kinds of short scale flats that won't fit your bass - I haven't found a bass yet that my short scale Dogal R45 flats will fit, for instance - but, they will be far and away the exception. The only possible problem I can foresee, is that some kinds might have a G string that's a hair too short for that headstock (and that does not happen very often); or - and more likely - the E string will wind up with a little of the speaking part of the string (the fat part) wound on to the tuner post. Which is actually pretty common with 4-in-line headstocks, and while it's not aesthetically pleasing, is hardly ever a problem. So...
While I've never used the short scale D'Addario Chromes, I do use a lot of short scale La Bella flats. Just put a new set of shorty 760FL's on a 30" scale Warmoth Mini-Precision Bass last night, in fact. No problem at all; and yes, the E string did wind up with about 1/2 a turn of the fat part of the string on the tuner post. Just like the GHS Precision flats they replaced did...
Bottom line? Put whatever short scale flats you want to use on it - and play the snot out of it...

Own one of these. I’m certain they’ve used the same hardware (tuners/bridge) from the Mini P now that I own one of the Sonic Broncos.

As most have told, your strings will be fine.

Sadly people lie. Many are techs. I’ve had them lie to me because they didn’t understand thomastik Infeld strings and installed them incorrectly on me.

I’ve had them lie because they don’t like working with EMG pickups so they’ve led me differently.

The worst thing I’ve encountered tech wise is when they huff and tell you to learn how to do it yourself and when I beg them to spend an hour with me (a very well paid one) or to point me to where I can get hands on help; they don’t know.

I struggle learning from videos because sometimes along the way I have dumb questions and when you’re touching the item or at least for me it can allow some to get lost in translation.

I say all of the above only because the relevance is as applies to my Squier Sonic Bronco because I desperately want to learn how to do things like even change my strings.

(I’ve paid to have this done every time and even overpaid so far as to expedite my end while giving a reason for someone to help me)

I feel incredibly stupid but I overthink many things and I wasn’t raised at all handy so right now I’m sat here with my stock Sonic Bronco and I am going to learn how to set this thing up somehow.

If anyone knows any manner of even hands on or camera on teaching I’d be very happy to hear of it or if you happen to know of anything near say the Baltimore, MD area in which such could be obtained.

OK, thread jacking over let me revert back to OP subject of strings and in my Bronco experience I have one with LaBella Low Tension Flats, one with Ernie Ball Cobalt 40-95.

I have two of the Mini P basses and one has Rotosound 40-90 swing bass and the other has again the LaBella Low Tension Flats and lastly I have this Sonic series Bronco with the stock strings which I’m told are D’Addario.

I greatly advise the low tension La Bella flats as they feel wonderful, are incredibly low tension for La Bella and they sound amazing.

That being said, Thomastik-Infeld rounds have become my favorite string on everything in a very light gauge. JR344 I believe is the exact model. I have these on a Fender Mustang as well as on several long scale basses and while they’re pricey I’d absolutely go with them first at all times if possible.

Which, if I can get to learning I can figure out how to do just that.

Thanks for the time, apologies to anyone who will get furious at me for daring to prattle on over tech advice in my seeking but it’s still worth the ask for me in the end.
