Hey all
I'm having a problem with new pickups. I have no experience, I'm just kind of diving in and trying to figure it out. Which brings me here asking for help.
Problem is everything seems to work properly, but with a buzzing noise that gets louder with more treble. It quiets down when I touch one of the knobs, a pickup pole, or the cable end at the output jack. It still buzzes in passive but not as loud.
They are DiMarzio Area J's. Each pickup has red, black, white, green and gray wires. The preamp is push-pull volume, blend, bass/treble, and mid. I can't find a diagram with this particular setup.
I have black and white from pickup 1 soldered together and taped, and same for pickup 2. And then I have gray and green from pickup 1 soldered together and grounded, same for pickup 2 grounded to a different place.
So trying to research this, I came across this in a thread:
"I haven't installed any Area Js, but the instructions say they have a gray wire, and normally the gray and green wire connect to ground. In this case only the gray should be grounded on the pickup that is being switched into series. In series, the green wire is now part of the signal and not ground. If the gray wire is connected to the green, then the metal parts of the pickup will be part of the signal (hot)."

I think they were talking about installing a switch for series or parallel. I don't want that, I just want it in series all the time. But it sounds to me like I shouldn't have green going to ground for series.
Can anyone tell me what is wrong with the setup? If greens are not ground, where should they go?
