Need help with power cord.

I have a Tecamp Puma and I forgot to bring my power cord with me and I need to buy another one. The Puma says 10A 250V in the back where I plug the power cord.

I am going to assume that if it says 10A 250V on the socket of the amp, that is the minimum AMP rating I can use So in essence, I can not use a 7A 125V cable or 7A 250V. I most likely need to use at least a 10A 250V cable.

There are bunch of different cords ranging from 7.5A to 16A 250V where I am at.

1. Going up the AMP from 10 to 16A is fine?

2. Can I use a 16A 250V cable to replace the 10A 250V that I forgot at home?

3. Shorter the cable is better than more than needed longer cable?

Get a longer one with similar conductors /connectors with at least as high a rating, it will work, no magic to power cords. If you're going really really long, you should probably up the wire gauge (well, ensuring the amp rating of the long cord is >= the original does that automatically, though).

My cord is permanently attached. I've had it my whole life. It still works fine though.

So have a tech install a longer one, or better yet, have them install an IEC connector on the back of the amp and you can use a standard cable.

Yup, too much juice through too small a wire = fire.

Though, "larger" not really necessary, "greater than or equal to" original, in terms of amp ratings. A 100' power cord rated at 10 amps will normally be a whole lot thicker than a 6' power cord rated at 10 amps.

If you need a longer power cable get a length of suitable 3 core cable and put an after market plug on one end and a socket on the other. The ones I use are from Home Depot and look very much like Hospital grade but are yellow.

just a bit of advice from a guy with an electrican background, 115/120 volt circits in the united staes are run on 20 amps...regardless of what that amp pannel says its impossable to pull over 20 amps through your cord withoutblowing the circit, that being know the national electriccode calls for 12awg wire for 115/120volt- 20 amp cicits as the 20 amp fuse/circit breaker protects that gauge wire as it will blow/trip prior to that gauge wire being over burdened. there for any 12 awg cord will be more than adiquite.. many switch are over ratex as well, which simply means the switch is over capable for an application....get a short cord a buy a 100 fot contractor 12awg x 3 extention cord....trust me the most bad ass amp out there that runs on 115/120 current doesnt pull a thired the amps as a table saw or 3hp router
