Need some new headphones. Which ones?

I need some new headphones for practicing. Not looking for anything fancy, maybe under $100. Any recommendations?

My favourite is the Klipsch S4. Elliptical seals make them more comfortable, and give a more consistent seal than other affordable in-ear buds.

Nice balanced sound, without the low end bloat that makes "bass buds" from other manufacturers sound muddy and indistinct. They actually work pretty well as an entry-level IEM...

I'm really looking for headphones but I'll look at them.

I think what you want is the Sony MDR-7506 ($87) or MDR-V6 ($68). They are no-nonsense studio monitor-style headphones. Which means they don't have "extra bass," or noise cancelation or rap star endorsements. They are used in radio, film, tv and music studios so that people can hear stuff. They can be repaired. You can order new cords or new ear pieces, etc. (And both of these models use the same parts I've discovered.) The 7506 are what we use in my TV studios at work. I did a side-by-side comparison with the -V6 and could not distinguish them so I bought the cheaper V6 model.

Grado SR-80, nothing beats them for the price, or double for that matter.

Was wondering if anybody has any Audio-Tecnica ATH-M30 headphones. Read many good reviews on those.

Those look pretty good, actually. I'm seeing key words like "accuracy." And they do have good reviews on Amazon. I haven't heard them myself, but that's what I'd be looking for. Might want to check the frequency response numbers against the Sonys, though, before pulling the trigger.

Update: I just checked it. The Audio-Technica ones say 20-20k. The Sony MDR-V6 say 5-30k. Draw your own conclusions.

Just checked cnet.com and they rated them very good but not as good as the ATH-M50 which are a little more then I wanted to spend at about $150

Well you did say under $100. I can only tell you that I'm very happy with my Sony MDR-V6. Not a single regret. I got mine for $66. They're going for $68 now. I'd buy them again in a minute.

The best "bass players" I have are my Beyerdynamic DT770 and the Sennheiser 250 HD.

The DT770 need a lot of amp to drive them.

Well that doesn't explain why the TV and radio guys where I work have been using them for years and years. They're kind of an industry standard.
