Aaaarrrggghhhh again with this old myth. Both of you, please check the FAQ, and search on "underpowering" to learn the actual facts.

Bottom line, distortion does not inherently harm any speaker, and giving a speaker "too little" power will never hurt it.

I'm truly sorry, I certainly didn't mean to perpetuate a myth and cause any confusion. I feel even worse that this info is in the FAQ. <ashamed>

Listen to Bongomania...he is a font of knowledge on all things technical. I have been reading your article on compression trying to figure out how to maximize effectiveness of my new pedal.

Hopefully, Bongo will agree that any of your power amp choices would be fine for bass and that those salesman were just blowing smoke.
