I didnt read all the posts, but want to suggest possibly checking out a Fender Jazz. I know, I know...another Fender nut, but seriously its the thinnest, best neck Ive ever played. My hands have long strong fingers but I wasnt comfortable with any others regardless. Give one a try.

Nobody has asked how light she needs, so I will ask. What is your weight cutoff? That might help you get some more useful input here.

Also, I have a Planet Waves wide strap and that is much more comfortable than the thinner straps I had been using. I got mine used here on TB for $10 shipped. I think they are $16 new on Amazon. Wider straps help. I am a small guy with very small hands, and now that I am old I definitely prefer under 9 lbs. Closer to 8 the better. Which keeps me in the Fender family. MIM Jazz, MIA P, MIA AV '62 J. Love them all. The AV is the heavywieght. I am afraid to weigh her because I don't really want to know that she is that fat! :-)

I'm going to try and find a few to play. Honestly I have never been a fan of Fender's. But I admit it has been many many years since I played one, so who knows maybe I will feel different about them now.
I do know that a lot of the bass players I like play P' basses but I pretty much had written them off due to the weight issue.
Going to go out this weekend and see what I can find.
Will report back here, if I make any progress. :cool:

I'm sure, if you're near someone on here who owns a P Lyte, a TB'r would let you drop by and play one. I know I would, if you're close enough.


Edit: Oh and, for what it's worth, I own a couple but I'm not really a "fender" person. In fact, I'm SEVERELY in lust for a Classic S5 right now. The powder blue one w/ tort pg? ZOMG.

I just bought a Peavey Foundation 2000, it weights less than my Foundation S. My wife tried it out last night when I got home with it, now she wants it for herself. I guess I'm doing a bass trade without leaving the house ! Her Foundation S for my Foundation 2000.

She is only 5'2" & very small and, said the weight of this one feels right for her.

I have two 2 1/2" wide leather straps. I'm not sure of the weight cut off. I guess 9 pounds but it really depends on the bass itself.

I've played the Jag's, and they sound great, but they weigh in around the same as a Jazz. If you're looking for lightweight and good sound, I second the suggestion of the Fender Aerodyne. It's a PJ, so you can dial in either tone which gives you the variety you're looking for, they're light, and I think they look killer.

I am a big fan of the Fender Lyte. The problem I have with them is that the strap button is located around the 13/14th fret, making for a longer stretch to first position for your left hand. This fact alone makes it a dealbreaker for me.
