Hello everyone, need some help. I put new strings on my Ibanez SR500E bass and while adjusting, like an absolute idiot, I managed to round out the truss rod nut. Now I have the bass in for repair and have been told that I’ll need to replace the neck. I have been looking around and so far only found this [This invalid link has been removed] though I’m not sure that this will go on it. Any chance I could get some help. I’m in the uk as well, so preferably sourced from uk or EU

Need to replace a neck

I’ve managed to round out the nut is what I’ve been told, as such I can’t adjust the truss rod
I'm fairly confident there's a fix for that and you don't need to replace the neck. People more knowledgeable than me will chime in eventually.

If it's just the nut, and if the nut is removable, then perhaps all you need is a new nut.
AND learn how to adjust the truss rod properly. Bend the neck using other means, and then just snug up the nut. Trying to force the rod to move the neck results in unhappiness.

Okay sweet I’ll have a chat with the repair guy and move on from there. As far as learning, yeah definitely learnt an important lesson.
A good picture of the nut would help. Depending on the kind of nut there are tools that should help get it off. Then just replace it and take more care next time. Anybody who tells you that you need a new nexk because of a bad nut just doesn't want the hassle of fixing it.
How do you replace the nut on a double action truss rod? I'm pretty sure the Ibanez uses such a rod. As far as I know these types of truss rod nut cannot be removed. Hence the need for a new neck.
The alternative might be to cut a bit from an allen key and glue in into the hole in the truss rod nut. It could then be adjusted by a small socket.

before everyone piles on the tech, it’s probably a dual action rod which means you’d have to replace the rod, which means fretboard off and a possibility of a new board, refret or fret leveling.
