The only thing I disliked about DS9, was the religious overtones.

I liked Enterprise, but it was afflicted by the same thing that slowed down Voyager: the constant push to introduce a new ‘favourite alien villain’ to replace the Klingons.

Once each series pushed past that, they got measurably stronger.

First season of TNG had me wondering why I even got into Star Trek. I'll give it a season or so. After it "grew its beard", of course...

That's the thing. I'm really, really hopeful. I want to like it. Star Trek may be the best thing ever shown on TV. The idea of just taking off into the stars is fascinating. Yes, it's incredible to see what we did up there but I want to know the back story of what got us there. The concept is good, but it seems the wrong people were cast, the writing was terrible...

Also, I was a tad disheartened that Zefram Cochrane wasn't more than an afterthought. He's only the reason it all came to fruition.

Anyway, one season. It has to get better. Right???

During it's original run, I watched the entire first season--but was only able to make it halfway through the second season before I stopped watching. I disliked the series so much, not even Jolene Blalock could keep me watching every week.

But about a year ago, I did manage to marathon watch all five seasons--however, the passage of 15 years did not change my attitude toward the show.

I think Enterprise is the weakest of all the series. Scott Bakula as captain and Trip are both pretty cheesy. My biggest letdown was that the ship runs too darn well. I know they don't have shields, which is a step in the right direction, but the ship ought to be like a World War II submarine--cramped, dark, bad air, stuff always breaking. Instead, it's the Love Boat in space, and basically they had just invented starships. I can see Picard's Enterprise being pimped out, but come on. This is the Model T of Federation vessels.

There were some things about Enterprise I didn't like--but I was abel overlook them as there were things I did like.
I enjoyed it overall (But get rid of that final episode with Riker--the one before was an excellent episode)

Overall I love TOS, the characters were the biggest part of that--yes some cheesy stories & cheap sets--but for the time some of the sets, props & effects were pretty good for what kind of budget a TV show would get then.
Although if you watch the digitally upgraded ones now--you'll see some beautiful backgrounds or space scenes, etc, and then cut to a cheesy set.

Still I enjoyed most of the stories & the characters.

TNG--I found the character bland overall--although some improved, (Worf was way better on DS9)
I think Patrick Stewart is a very good actor, but I don't really like Picard--so I find myself liking the actor, but not the character.

DS9 had the slowest start I think, of any ST series.
but once it got going I quite enjoyed it.
Certainly Sisko's beard & later, shaved head indicate better episodes as well--but you can see an improvement before then.

I really wanted to like Voyager --& gave a it a chance for a while, but ultimately I either disliked or didn't care about the characters--does it say something that my favorite Voyager character was probably Kim?

And though Discovery is very new still, I have given up on it--it just feels lazy and I can't get into it.

So in the grand scheme of Trek--I would list the series in order of how I liked them:
(I know this wasn't necessarily asked for--but there has been some discussion headed this way)
1-TOS
2-DS9
3-Enterprise
4-Animated
5-TNG
6-Voyager
7-Discovery

Yep, I think DS9 and I will be a good match.

Sisko is a badass. Dax is likeable and cute. Kira is waaaay feisty. I like her. Odo is interesting. Quark was always annoying. Jake is a good fellow. Julian gives me that "freshman vibe", if you get me. Don't know how I feel about him yet.

Yep, I think this will be good.
