Need your help, TB. Would you return this bass??

Ugh! Im sure they would accept it back(return) since its from sweetwater( good customer service) and it was sold as new, although I would say anything about it getting "hit" prior. Its always a good idea to closely inspect any instrument be fore playing it or test driving it.
I 'd try returning it if you can.

I once bought an acoustic Washburn bass off ebay(ab-10) for a killer deal! but it was sold as "used & a factory second" from the dealer, & had many to choose from. I chose the one that was the best looking in the photos, upon reciept I was excited pull it out of the box with out inspecting it, just grabbed it and gave it a quick once over. It looked fantastic! as I was was enjoying my purchase & the New guitar smell. I started to tune it up, the bass shipped strings slack, as I tuned the E string it started to creak,no biggie I thought, Until, creeeak...pop! ugh! such an ugly sound! hit me right in the gut, it ran down to my knees, i was sickened! I quickly looked up & down the bass, saw nothing, I was still in shock( kind of dumb founded) I didnt see anything sticking out as you'd expect from such a sound! so I continued to tune it up. Then "crack"! & oww! as i slide my hand down the neck "stab!" youch!! My thumb just got stabbed by a shard of wood splintering out from the neck! I stopped tuning of course, to tend to my wound. the piece of wood was the size of a toothpick sticking out where thefret board meets the neck. it appeared the FB was separating from the neck. I assumed the head stock took a hit during shipping, so i closely inspected it for any damage, none. &the nut was still intact, no damage. but if i pulled the headstock back the crack enlarged & the FB lifted up! I started to Panic, I know a luthier,& its the start of a long weekend, and im' guilty of DIYing things I have no business fixing! I start to wonder if this is something I could "fix" It doesnt look that bad its just separating at the seam between the FB and the neck, something a little glue could fix.
I thought about returning it for second, until I remember the seller's desclaimer. "these are factory seconds! no returns, Sold as is!"! I reread his post and reviews nothing but glowing reviews! nobody had a bad thing to say. and the" Sold as is" was bold, flashing & very apparent! I am some what handy & decide to fix it myself... I have a lot of "crazy" glue and have done many repairs & touchup jobs, so im pretty confident I can handle this! after all its on the seam. I head to Youtube for some how to videos, Yup just open up the crack & squirt a lot of glue preferably thin CA glue which I have plenty! clamp over nite & done! cool!! as I think back I would have returned it in an instant, but since the seller made it clear all sales were final, No returns. I bit the bullet & made the repair which was very successful, to this day! and is virtually invisible. doing a little research that bass was worth $500 bux New, I got it for $60 bux + shipping, so under 100.00 total, I did have to level the higher frets at 1 point but overall its a great bass,but sadly the seller isnt around any more, I think washburn made him stop selling their "seconds" or they found out he was reselling them on ebay! he had a bunch (over a dozen).for cheap in various conditions most were fine just surface scratches. I wonder if I just didnt catch the crack in the photos in the first place! The bass is now my beater of course, but is a fine instrument, My brother loves playing it!
I'm sure Sweetwater will take yours back, For the money you spent I would difinitely Return it! although that crack looks like its just in the clear coat(not structural), simple to buff out or drop filled, Please dont attempt any repairs until you hear from your sales rep!
I'm just telling you what I did when I didnt have the option of returning it. your photos reminded me of my washburn.GL

I would return it in a heartbeat. An expensive instrument like that should be perfect. My $1200 Fender Performer Precision was perfect. I suspect Fodera would not want that example floating around. It may be cosmetic but you will be staring at it every time you play it.

You'll probably think this is creepy but I've seen your Yin-Yang Fodera. It's beautiful. I'm an occasional Bassology student. Ant posted a photo of yours on FB. I didn't realize it had a blemish. That's cool. We'll see what kind of response I get from my rep. It's my 2nd Monarch (I also had a standard). I know they'll take care of me.

I would contact a Fodera and get their thoughts.
It looks really minor and it’s not structural.
Unfortunately the location of that blemish is right within your sight line and it will haunt you if you don’t resolve this.

If it is something that could get worse with time, I’m thinking I may have to return it.:( What would you do?

Take pics of the box if possible, helps with the claim.

For 5 grand it better be delivered without so much as a speck of dust on it. Crack in the finish is totally unacceptable for something sold as new.

I would lose my mind.
I’m sure I would freak out...:eek:
Most likely I would start eating puppies, stomping loudly and grumbling around small children.


Just kidding:thumbsup:...I most likely not care if I bonded with it.

I would just snap a pic and send it to my rep and asked them what they wanted to do.
