Well, it's all down to ignorance really. People just tend to believe what they're told w/o doing any research.
My buddy who works at GC said, "Yadda Yada Yadda!", and they believe whatever their undereducated friend had to say.

It is sad that our education system has allowed the most bizarre thought processes to be allowed out in the public. Where these ideas come from is truly puzzling, but as an old friend once said, ever mind is a different world.

Sometimes it is just so wrong, typing correct information just seems too daunting a task.
