Neodymium??

I ever want to degauss a cassette tape, I'll just leave it on my 2x10 for a minute.

Regular speaker cabs work for this too. Back in the 'old tech' days of samplers/keys that needed sounds loaded from disks, I had a keyboard player put his box of sample disks in the back of an open backed guitar amp for load in at a show...guess what was blank for the show that night. ;)

I hate being that guy this morning. But, a static field will polarize a tape actually making it less capable of reuse. Degaussing a tape is done with a changing field (AC electromagnet) to randomize the tape. Lesson of semi-useful information for the day. :)

You may be over estimating it's usefulness. :chicken:

People still own tapes?
I guess you mean in a recording environment.

I still have some VHS tapes. I also have some DAT and ADAT (high grade VHS) tapes around. I would bet B and C tape carts may still be in use at some radio stations? This does apply to floppy discs (if someone has any around still) and even hard drives (not SSD). Magnetic recording materials are still in camcorder use as well.

So yes sound, but also video and data.

Heck yes!! I came for the light weight and stayed for the great sound. Neos rock (IMHO)!

In my experience Neodymium sucks, not because of the sound or magnetic properties, but because the neodymium capsules overheat and burst like old batteries, when the amps are pushed to the limits. I personally witnessed the failure with my speaker technician. The best magnetic material is Alnico! Period.

Any more detail to this?
