Hi! I joined this forum for the obvious reason, as my thread title states, I'm fairly new to playing bass guitar. I studied music for about 10 years as a kid/teen...played the saxophone in school and took private lessons outside of school when I got into high school. I quit playing music all together when I was about 19...I have my reasons, and I'd rather not get into that story. Never quit listening to music, though. I've had my struggle over the past 20 years of trying to rekindle my love affair with playing music. I'm almost 40, and I've finally had that fire re-lit, so here I am. I had a dump of a bass a few years ago that I bought for $50 just to mess around on...it proved to be horrible to even be comfortable with because the neck had been severely cracked and improperly repaired. I just set it aside. The stars aligned for me a few weeks ago though, as I bid on, and won, my dream bass...a 1979 Ovation Magnum ii, on eBay. For a steal, I might add! Needs a little TLC, but only minor stuff...electronics need to be cleaned, new strings, new pick guard (new case because that thing smells like a corpse has been enclosed inside of it for 20 years). Other than those things, it's in amazing condition...the seller really wasn't kidding when he said he didn't know anything about playing bass because he sure didn't know what he had on his hands. My baby daddy is a professional, touring musician/recording engineer, so she is in good hands as far as these minor repairs. Although I've asked him to not do anything to it until I'm around as I want to learn every inch of that bass so I can do these things myself.
