Hey people, don't get any work done until you know for sure what it is. Not some doc's opinion, but some actual proof. (Of course, that's not always possible). In my case, I also had numerous tests that weren't definitive (EMG, etc). I had several physicians tell me several possible causes, but nobody was certain. But when I had the MRI done and I could see the dent in my spinal cord where the bone was growing into it, then we knew for sure what the problem was.
You want to be conservative with these types of injuries as long as possible. When you are talking about spinal cord problems that high up (C4/C5) a mistake in treatment could be disastrous.
I'm a medical school professor (Ph.D., not M.D.) and I would never risk going to a chiropractor nor massage therapist for this type of problem. While a chiropractor or massage therapist can help with some of these problems, if you do have what I have (i.e., bone spurs causing spinal compression), a chiropractor or massage therapist who uses aggressive techniques could actually cause the bone to dig further into the spinal cord.
If you have these symptoms, I suggest going to a neurologist and getting an MRI done to see if you have visible compression of the spinal cord before having anything done.
