Never had this before

Just got a brand new fender select jazz. When I'm sliding down the neck even without touching the strings I hear electrostatic discharge noise. The hum level is normal, nice shielding job, quite for a passive jazz! But this electric sizzle makes it unusable so I have to fix this....ANY ideas or solutions? Anybody had the same problem? Thanks!

Have you polished the pickguard? My physics is terrible, so don't expect a great explanation, but there's something to do with static electricity getting picked up. I can't say for sure if this is the problem, but it should clear after an hour or so of playing if it is.

Just something to check before you send it back, or change any of the hardware!

Have you peeled the protective plastic off of the pickguard yet?

LOL! How many of you have ever checked out a used Fender that was made a few years back but still had the plastic on the pickguard as the owner never realized it was supposed to be peeled off?
I remember checking a 20 years old Strat with a yellowish pickguard and the amazed look of the owner when I peeled it off in front of him unveiling an immaculate white pickguard.
