It only stands to reason that the 50th Anniversary J was coming; there was a 50th Anniv. P-bass a few years ago. that said, it's just another J-bass with some different hype and spin behind it. Only collectors will pay the asking price.
Hmm... If they wanted to make it more "authentic", they could string it up with flatwounds or something: this $2,800 bass is strung with the same strings found on a $600 bass.
Wow! So nice with the matching headstock. But also, $2,799. While there are so many people that like Fenders and Jazz basses that no matter what Fender does, they can't please everyone, but $2,799???? And you couldn't have possibly made this exact bass ANY cheaper than this????

I remember samash had these on blowout for less than a grand. Granted, they were not 50th anniv models, but 75 RI FSR in CAR. At least those had binding instead of a jaguar neck!
It might, 48 years from now, if all goes well. But will you have enough hearing at that time to really discern it?

......yet alot of us shell out 4 grand for a Sadowsky or Alleva Coppollo. LOL! .....and its still just a jazz bass!
Jazz basses yes. But at least they have high end preamps,pickups,and are highly detailed pieces of work.
That's different, because they have different preamps and are designed, typically, by the CUSTOMER. This is the same passive Jazz Bass sound I can get from a Squier Classic Vibe Jazz Bass for 1/9 of the price.
Maybe It's just me but I don't like those bridge covers.
But the bass looks nice.
It's not just you. I like to play right over the pickup sometimes.
